Line of Defense Digital Comic Now Available

Line of Defense doesn’t release for a good while yet (first quarter of 2013), but that doesn’t mean you can’t brush up on the game’s lore before. Similar to Alganon, 3000AD has teamed up with DC Comics to create the first of three comic books for Line of Defense. With names like Brian Ching (Dark Horse Comics) and Ricardio Sanchez (Resident Evil, Aion, Telara comics). The Line of Defense comic sets up the story for the upcoming MMOFPS, in a seemingly never ending fight between the ruling Galactic Command and the rebelling insurgents over control of a planet and a super-weapon.

If you attended Comic Con or PAX, you were able to grab a physical copy. For the rest of us, however, the comic is being released through Comixology completely free of charge, provided you have the Comixology app. Alternatively, if you’d just like to read the comic in its .pdf/plain image format, check the link below.

Line of Defense Will Be On Steam

Small update on 300AD. While certain factors have prevented Alganon from being released on the digital distribution platform, I can confirm through several anonymous sources (all of them named Derek Smart) that Line of Defense will be available on Steam.

“LOD is definitely coming to Steam; since I already have my other games on there.”

MMO Fallout will hopefully have beta keys to hand out when Line of Defense goes into beta at some point in the near future.

Win A Physical Copy Of Alganon and Line of Defense Comics

Boy do I have a prize for all of you. Well, one of you. Last year Derek Smart partnered with DC Entertainment to create two comic books. The first, based on Alganon, was only distributed at Comic Con. The second, based in the upcoming MMO Line of Defense, was distributed only at E3 convention this month. The former was released in a digital form, the latter will not be released digitally to the best of my knowledge.

But you have an opportunity to get your hands on both. In that strange paper format, no less.

The rules are pretty simple. Rather than the old boring “make a comment and I’ll pick someone at random” giveaway that MMO Fallout normally does, I’m going to give you all a psychological examination. All you have to do is look at the photo below, and tell me what you see at contact[at]mmofallout.com. The best answer will win both comics.

Now due to the nature of the prize, I must limit the contest to North America only, and if you are picked you will need to provide a mailing address. Otherwise, go nuts! The contest will run for two weeks, until July 5th.

Derek Smart’s New MMO: Line of Defense

Derek Smart Online

It’s easy to forget that Derek Smart still has a vested interest in his 3000A.D series, although a quick look at his twitter profile will reveal that his non-Alganon games are still being patched. Looking at the above screenshot, if your first impression is the gameplay of Earthrise combined with the graphics of our favorite super hero MMOs, you might be closer than you think. According to Line of Defense’s website (which at the time is rather sparse with direct details), LoD will be “twitch-based” and the gameplay surrounding two factions fighting over bases:

In the game, you can play as either a GALCOM military marine or an Insurgent soldier. The primary objective is to gain control of each of the four bases. You do this by waging war as an infantry marine (first or third person), on land or naval vehicles and aircrafts (fighter, gunships etc). You will take over bases by either destroying or hacking into and disabling their defense systems, thus making them vulnerable. You will do this 24-7 and 365 days a year on the Lyrius planet or in the space region above it – and all within a 100% persistent universe.

Sounds like the mass scale ground combat over territory in Planetside, in a freemium system.

Hybrid business model which caters to both F2P and premium models; both with access to in-game monetization.

More information on Line of Defense as it appears. Hopefully the combat will be engaging, because there won’t be any crafting.

No pointless grind. No boring crafting. No inconsequential resource collection. Just pure war on a very large scale.
