Frostkeep To Sunset Rend This Month

Rend is dead, as Frostkeep announced today. A post on the official website confirms that the servers for the survival game will go offline permanently as of January 31.

“We’re sad to announce that on 1/31/2020 we will sunset Rend. This was a difficult decision for our team and was not something we approached lightly or without serious thought and consideration. As a small indie studio, we set out with determination and a bold vision to create a competitive survival game that would challenge the traditional mold and introduce new experiences and ways for players and friends to participate within the game regardless of play style. But ultimately, the game’s population levels have decreased and reached a level where the original experience we hoped for and envisioned for Rend is no longer a possibility. We will formally shut down all public servers on Friday 1/31. While today’s news is a disappointment, we’re sincerely grateful to our players, partners and the community for your commitment and support. Thank you for joining us on the battlefield.”

Frostkeep Studios suffered layoffs earlier this month that seem at least somewhat related to the shut down. Also likely related is the dismal performance of the title, as traffic for Rend on Steam had dropped into the single digits of average players since October 2019. Frostkeep has promised not to interfere with private servers.

Frostkeep Studios Unveils New Game Modes For Rend

Frostkeep Studios this week announced the debut of two new game modes for Rend on the public test realm.

The two game modes are called Classic and Exploration while the original game mode will be renamed Faction War. In classic mode, players will battle for supremacy by sieging each others’ bases, waging war, capturing territory, and collecting bounties. Exploration, meanwhile, is an entirely PvE mode that does not allow for player vs player combat. Both modes allow for players to join up in clans, however progression is per-character and there is no reputation system.

In addition to these two new modes, ascension points are seeing a change from per-server to globally tied to player accounts. AP gained from any activity will count for all servers.

Frostkeep Lays Out Early Access Roadmap For Rend

It’s been two months since Rend launched into early access, and this week the folks at Frostkeep Studios laid out their roadmap for the rest of the year and into 2019. Among other updates, the goal for the road ahead includes combat improvements for more impactful gunfights, streamlined features overhauling crafting, inventories, and storage, legendary artifacts based in Norse mythology, dynamic siege content, and refined social mechanics.

The roadmap can be seen here, and the fall developer letter here. The team at Frostkeep also plans on releasing a Trello board for community issues where players can see the status of bug reports, opening up a new avenue of communication between the base and the developers.

Rend is currently in early access on Steam for $29.99.

Steam: Rend Enters Early Access To Mostly Positive Reviews

Team-based survival game Rend has entered early access on Steam this week, and the reviews are so far looking mostly positive. Developed by Frostkeep Studios and published by the same, Rend is a game inspired by Norse mythology that tasks players with building their faction’s stronghold and then of course battling it out with both other players and creatures that populate the landscape.

Initial response has been positive, with the game gathering a 75% mostly positive rating on Steam.

“Since we first announced Rend, we have been developing it side by side with our players through Pre-Alpha and Alpha testing and by gathering feedback through Discord and our official channels,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “Our goal has always been to transform the way players interact and participate in survival games while delivering on the fantasy that they have come to expect from this genre.”

Frostkeep Studios is an independent developer whose list of talent includes names from vanilla World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and League of Legends.

Fantasy Survival Game Rend To Launch In Early Access This Month

Frostkeep Studios has announced today that their title Rend will launch on Steam early access later this month. Dubbed a faction-based fantasy survival title, Rend was created by a studio formed from veteran Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and League of Legends developers. Rend introduces RPG mechanics, sandbox elements, win/loss conditions, and massive battles. Early Access will be available on July 31, with the game available for $29.99.

“Early access marks a pivotal moment for Frostkeep Studios,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “We have been developing Rend side-by-side with our players since we first announced the game and are grateful for the invaluable feedback they provided to help shape Rend into what it has become today: the game they want to play.”

Alpha Signups Open For Rend, Open World Survival Game

Starting today, players will be able to get their hands on the invite-only alpha test for Rend, an upcoming faction-based fantasy survival game from Frostkeep Studios. Frostkeep is a new independent studio made up of a number of industry veterans from World of Warcraft, Overwatch, League of Legends, and more.

Launching into early access later this year, Rend promises to challenge gaming tropes by introducing factional combat, RPG mechanics, win/loss conditions, and more into a world of survival.

“Our goal at the start of this project was to continuously grow and improve Rend by gathering direct feedback from our players every step of the way,” said Jeremy Wood, co-founder and CEO, Frostkeep Studios. “As we lovingly craft this game with the help of our players, this project remains just as much theirs as it is ours, and this public alpha marks a significant milestone as we offer even more players around the world the opportunity to enter the world of Rend and join our community.”

More details can be found on the official Steam page. Alpha signups can be found on the official website.
