TERA Opens Up Inactive Usernames

tera_logo_vf_rgb_102114_1920_final

TERA’s launch on Steam means a lot of new players, and that means a lot of people looking for free names. On June 25th, characters who haven’t logged in over the past year will have their usernames changed in order to free up choices for these new incoming players:

Any characters that have not logged into the game since June 25, 2014 will have their names appended with “_1”, freeing up their old names to anyone creating a new character or using the paid Character Name Change service.

You will need to log in before June 25th to keep your name saved.

TERA Declares Itself #1 MMO On Steam

tera_logo_vf_rgb_102114_1920_final

En Masse Entertainment has declared TERA to be the #1 MMO on Steam, based on peak concurrent players compared to other MMOs on the digital platform.

Since launching on Steam on May 5, 2015, TERA has seen explosive growth, with new and returning players pushing the total number of accounts to over 4.5 million in North America and 20 million worldwide! And those players have been busy—killing an average of 6 million BAMs (Big-Ass Monsters) and clearing 70,000 dungeons a day.

First TERA Expansion Announced

tera_foa_08

Hopefully today’s MMOrning Shot didn’t spoil anything for you. En Masse Entertainment announced the first expansion to TERA, dubbed Fate of Arun. The expansion will task players with exploring the mysterious northern continent of Arun, taking on a new evil power and perhaps saving the native Khirians in the process. The expansion also raises the level cap to 65 and introduces new gear, zones, skills, and dungeons for high level players.

“It’s been an incredible two years since TERA first launched in North America,” said En Masse Entertainment Producer Patrick “Treeshark” Sun. “Fate of Arun will be, without a doubt, the biggest addition to the world of TERA new and returning players have ever seen – and we’re excited to reveal more details in the upcoming weeks.”

TERA Launches Reaper Class

PatchNotes_inner_Header

TERA has launched patch 26.04 today, introducing players to the brand new Reaper class. The Reaper is a mid-range DPS class that is unique to the Elin race and uses leather armor and a new scythe weapon. In addition to the new class, reapers also begin their journey on the new special starting area, Ashen Hope. Ashen Hope sees the destruction of Pora Elinu and will have reaper characters start at level 50 in this tutorial area. After completing Ashen Hope, players will return to the main world to play with their friends.

In order to unlock the reaper class, players must have one character on that server that is at least level 40. You can find more details at the link below.

MMOrning Shots: Big Baby

wintera_1

The TERA winter event is probably over. It wasn’t over for me when the Philadelphia airport cancelled ten flights at the same time (one of them being mine) and the customer service kiosk turned into a free for all pvp area. After ganking someone for the ticket, I was able to make it home in a timely manner with a slight jetlag debuff. Did anyone else notice the giant baby in that picture?

TERA Receiving New Class In 2014

TERa1

I feel bad for not noticing this sooner, but in my defense neither did any of the other major MMO news websites. On November 25th, Tera Today published an interview with Bluehole Studios on some upcoming updates in 2014 to the Korean service. Alongside a rookie server where players will be able to ease into the game as well as level up a bit faster, TERA will also be enjoying the release of a new class. The class is specific to the Elin race, a powerful mid-range damage dealer, although Bluehole is not saying that the class will never be available to othe races. According to the interview, developing new animations for each race takes approximately eight months.

You can check out the entire interview at the link below to read more about additional updates coming to KTera, and hopefully followed by other regions.

TERA On Its Way To China

TERa1

It’s hard to believe that TERA launched nearly two years ago in Korea, and even harder to believe that the game didn’t come to China before it came west. That hasn’t stopped publisher Kunlun Games from continuing with its efforts to bring the MMO to the northwest. According to a news article on MMO Culture, TERA is set to begin its first testing phase in China on January 9th, 2014. Players will be able to access content up to level 38, similar to the low content cap used in other regional betas, as well as an exclusive level 34 dungeon only available on the Chinese client.

TERA Servers Are Paid After June 11th

TERA_ScreenShot_20120311_210446

TERA players will be happy to know that the restrictions on server transfers have been removed, allowing movement to the previously denied Lake of Tears and Ascension Valley. Players are advised to make use of this freedom of movement, since server transfers will no longer be free soon. Beginning June 11th at noon Pacific, server transfers will cost 2,750 EMP (1,650 for elite) with a limit of the character being at least level 20, a transfer limit of fifty thousand gold, and a five day cooldown between transfers.

For the free transfer period, everyone’s cooldown period has been wiped clean.

En Masse Entertainment Bringing Streaming To TERA

TERa1

Hey, remember when En Masse Entertainment was offering a demo version of TERA on Gaikai? And then remember when Sony purchased Gaikai and shut everything down? We didn’t either, but luckily that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on The Exiled Realm of A Massive Installation just because TERA is about fifty gigabytes. In a press release sent out today, En Masse Entertainment has revealed a partnership with Happy Cloud Incorporated, to bring TERA to players devoid of time and bandwidth. Rather than having to download the 22gb file required to install TERA, players simply boot up the application and let the game download the files it needs as they are needed.

“Improving our user onboarding process for  TERA: Rising is a priority for us, and using Happy Cloud’s system is an easy way for us to get more players into TERA’s immersive, 3D world,” said Soo Min Park, COO at En Masse Entertainment.  “Taking a graphically rich, fast-paced game such as  TERA: Rising, which contains hundreds of hours of gameplay, and delivering the bytes in the order they’re needed is no small task, but we’re confident this will provide an even better experience for our fast growing legion of fans.”

Happy Cloud’s download system is available now through the TERA website once a user registers for an account. As far as MMO Fallout knows, this service only applies to the North American version and there has not (to our knowledge) been any announcement by Gameforge in Europe.
