Ridiculously expensive.
Aion Classic hasn’t been out for twenty four hours yet and it looks like NCSoft is really aiming to roll on those high costs. Yesterday we talked about how NCSoft is selling Kinah, in-game currency, for a little over $4 per million. Today I want to talk about Aion’s battle pass. Because Aion has a battle pass. And it is awful.
The general going price for a battle pass is $10 in the industry. Roughly. Fortnite’s battle pass is about $10, as are many other games. Aion’s battle pass is $30. Thirty dollarydoos for a pass that contains 45 levels worth of rewards and runs for one single month. To put that in perspective, Aion Classic’s battle pass costs three times as much as Fortnite’s and runs one third of the time with not nearly as much work put into creating the rewards. NCSoft expects players to spend $360 annually on just the pass, plus an additional $180 on the subscription.
Holy monetization, Batman.
Thankfully the Reddit community tells me that the battle pass is essentially worthless and that the rewards are mediocre at best, making the whole thing best ignored. The subscription on the other hand is where the benefits are, as without it you get one hour of regular gameplay per day before your experience is slashed, you can’t gather anything, or trade.
