XDefiant Basically Cancelled By Ubisoft

“Delayed indefinitely.”

XDefiant, Ubisoft’s upcoming first person shooter, and Call of Duty rival, has basically been cancelled. In an announcement posted on Twitter today, Ubisoft revealed that following a recent public test session there surfaced some “inconsistencies” that need to be addressed prior to the preseason.

If you’ve been following Ubisoft and the greater games industry for the last few years, you’re probably rolling your eyes at this announcement. Delayed indefinitely usually means that the company doesn’t quite want to announce its cancellation yet. Like during the fourth quarter fiscal season.

Alternately they are giving the game a delay so it doesn’t get utterly consumed by the launch of Modern Warfare 3 in a month. Or they’re really, really stupid and are going to try to launch XDefiant even closer to Modern Warfare 3’s launch.

Who knows? I don’t. XDefiant joins the ranks of Ubisoft “indefinitely delayed” games including Beyond Good and Evil 2 which was announced in 2008, as well as The Division: Heartland, Skull and Bones, and Rainbow Six Mobile.
