Darkfall: Unholy Wars Delayed Into December

Bad news (and possibly unsurprising), bears. On the Darkfall Epic Blog today, Tasos Flambouras has announced that Darkfall: Unholy Wars will not be able to meet its November 20th launch date. Rather, the relaunch of Aventurine’s MMO will take place on December 12th, slightly under one month from now. The announcement is due to “external factors, last minute issues, and testing feedback.” Unfortunately for players, this will not be extending the life of Darkfall’s current iteration. The shut down of Darkfall 1.0 will go ahead as planned tomorrow.

SMITE Ultimate God Pack Giveaway And 400 Gems

Entrance is over. The winners shall be revealed in the morning.

Through the power of the internet, I am very happy to present a luck two of you with some great prizes. SMITE is currently in closed beta, and you can grab a closed beta key from our free stuff page here [keys are out] (as well as a copy of DOTA2). SMITE is a DOTA style game set in a battle between gods from Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Hindu, Norse, and Roman mythology. While the game will be free to play upon release, here is a chance to get your hands on some pricey packs, absolutely free.

MMO Fallout is giving away two packs for SMITE.

 1. Ultimate God Pack ($29.99 USD value)
 2. 400 Gem Pack ($7.99 USD value)

The god pack unlocks 30 total gods, including the 25 current gods and 5 more that will come before release. If you win this pack, they will automatically be activated as they are released. The 400 gem pack contains just that, 400 gems. The rules to enter are simple:

 • Leave a comment with a valid email address and tell us which deity you most look forward to playing as.
 • Leave only one comment.
 • That’s it. Really.

The winner will be chosen on Friday November 16th and the winners will be notified via email. Thanks to the brand new MMO Fallout Super Star Comment System (trademark pending), this should go much better than our previous giveaways. Your comments should be approved immediately by the system. Good luck to everyone, and I will see two of you on Friday.

Remember to follow MMO Fallout here on the website and on Twitter for future giveaways.

Falling Out #16: Cheap Gold, Fast Delivery, RaiderZ

RaiderZ would be a great place to chat, if you could over the mass gold spam in the first main city.

Final Fantasy XIV Shuts Down: Watch The World End

If there is one thing Square Enix may never fail to impress us with, it must be the cinematic cutscenes that they create for their games, and the soundtracks that accompany them. Alright, make that two things. Final Fantasy XIV ended today in a cataclysm that destroyed the entire world, all recreated through the power of cimena and computer generated images. The video doesn’t provide much context at all if you haven’t been paying attention to the game, but even if you haven’t, it makes for one hell of a video.

Final Fantasy XIV shut down earlier today after the final event played out. The world will be reborn with Final Fantasy XIV 2.0, coming soon.

Take A Break: Your Chair Is Killing You

We interrupt our regularly scheduled MMO Fallout broadcasting for a short infographic by our friends at Learnstuff.com. Do you know how important it is to take a break when you’re at the computer? I do, mostly because I’ve neglected just about every health warning regarding prolonged use, and experience. But take a read over the following infographic, it’s pretty interesting and it shows some easy steps you can take to alleviate the symptoms of spending too much time at the computer.

While you’re at it, check out the rest of the information at learnstuff.com. This is not an advertisement.

Star Vault Accepting Donations In Return For Perks

It’s been a while since Star Vault released Mortal Online’s latest expansion, Awakening. While current development focus is aimed directly at squashing the numerous problematic bugs that have caused problems, John VanderZwet has posted an update on the Mortal Online website to detail some upcoming changes, including a donation system set up on the request of the community:

After a community forum thread got us thinking about a donation system, we’ve decided to run with it. Very soon we’ll be opening up a new section on our website allowing you to contribute to Mortal Online’s development outside standard subscriptions. It’ll work something like Kickstarter does, only we’ll be handling it on our own. You’ll receive cool perks for donating. The more you wish to donate the more you’ll receive. We’ll unveil just what these things are shortly, but we will NEVER introduce anything that will give you an advantage in the game. We’re talking cosmetic and just simply cool things here.

Additionally, Mortal Online will be updated to include a new system to accomplish two tasks: Aid new players, and introduce more casual options that do not detract from the overall game experience.

Class Action Lawsuit Against Blizzard Over Account Security

Blizzard is on the receiving end of a class action lawsuit over the company’s account security. The lawsuit, filed against the Santa-Monica developer, states that Blizzard deceptively and unfairly charged customers for extra security devices (authenticators), pulling in $26 million while failing to provide adequate security for people who were not willing to pay an “undisclosed fee.” The lawsuit cites countless accounts that have been breached due to Blizzard’s inadequate security, and seeks to bar Blizzard from “tacking on undisclosed fees,” and from requiring users to sign up for Battle.net.

“Most recently, on or about May 19, 2012, reports proliferated that class members’ Battle.net accounts had suffered a security breach (‘hack’) at the hands of unknown parties (‘hackers’), and on or about August 4, 2012, hackers massively breached Battle.net’s security and acquired the private information of all of defendants’ customers in the United States, as well as the remainder of North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.”

Judging by how other class actions end up, players who purchased the authenticator can likely look forward to a $.50 credit coming to their Battle.net account somewhere between 2015-2016.

Blizzard Offers Charity To Hurricane Sandy Relief

Blizzard is my favorite company when it comes to charity. In 2009, Blizzard released the Pandaran Monk pet, raising $1.1 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2010, the Moonkin hatchling raised over $800 grand for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2011, the Cenarion Hatchling raised nearly $2 million in support of disaster relief following the tsunami in Japan. With the recent Hurricane Sandy that tore up the eastern coast of the United States, Blizzard has announced that a special Cinder Kitten pet will be released on the Blizzard Store.

The pet will cost $10 and 100% of proceeds will go toward the Red Cross relief effort.

Bioware Mythic Is Just Mythic

Keeping track of how Electronic Arts names its studios is difficult, considering that subdivisions are shuffled around and renamed quite often. EA acquired Mythic Entertainment and renamed them Bioware Mythic. In a post on the Warhammer Online website, Mythic has announced that it is divorcing itself from the Bioware name. From now on, you can just call them “Mythic Entertainment.”

In the wake of a new focus our studio has recently changed its name from BioWare Mythic to Mythic. Everything else stays the same – our passionate teams will continue to support and develop our existing titles as well as working on some new and exciting projects.

It appears that Mythic will be taking on development of Ultima Forever, as it is listed as a Mythic game on their new website even though the official website still lists it as a Bioware title.
