Steam: Cake Mania Among Bankruptcy Casualties

Entire publisher catalog yanked from Steam.

Every so often a legacy dies on Steam that even we here at MMO Fallout must take note of. As of May 20, 2021, in the year of Arnold, the entire Cake Mania franchise has been pulled from Steam. If you need to take a moment to get a tissue, you may do so now.

So what’s the deal, I hear you say, and why has your future endeavor of cake in a manic state been quashed? A simple bankruptcy, my dear Watson. Actually three bankruptcies. Maybe four. Many of the games listed as being removed today were developed by Sandlot Games. Sandlot Games went kaput and in 2011 was acquired by Digital Chocolate. Digital Chocolate then went kaput and sold the games to RockYou. RockYou went kaput and declared bankruptcy in 2019 with no successor to the throne.

Therefore it stands to reason that the sudden removal of Sandlot’s entire line of games on the same day is related to their bankruptcy proceedings. We do know one thing; the world just won’t be the same without easy access to Super Granny 3 & 4.
