Alliance of Valiant Arms Returns Under En Masse Entertainment

Alliance of Valiant Arms is back up and running, after the decision was made to transfer publisher rights from Aeria Games to En Masse Entertainment. Luckily for players, the transfer doesn’t just mean signing your check over to a new company. The new release comes with graphical updates, a new user interface, and a new map, and more.

Soldier Front 2: Highly Reviewed, On Steam, Also Defunct

ss_3c12887e78457abaf81c82c243991811c183ca44.1920x1080

Soldier Front 2 is one of many free to play first person shooters on Steam and, if you’re anything like me, you may have stumbled upon it while browsing your recommended queue during the holiday sale. It may have even caught your eye, being a free to play shooter with a “very positive” community rating, and you may have downloaded it only to find that the game doesn’t launch. Instead, you get an error mentioning issues connecting to the server.

You see, Soldier Front 2 shut down months ago, yet the game is still available to download from Steam. The store page for SF2 no longer lists extra DLC packs, however they are still available for purchase for anyone unlucky enough to stumble upon and ignorant enough to buy without attempting to launch the game first. And should anyone get that far down the rabbit hole, the booster-nature of the DLC packs means that they are all ineligible for a refund.

Because We Missed It: FEAR Online Is Already Dead

Hospital

F.E.A.R Online is a free to play game set in the world of First Encounter Assault Recon, a horror franchise best known for introducing the world to Alma, a scary demon girl who comes back from the dead to seek revenge on those who caused harm to her. If you haven’t heard of the free to play game, it’s probably because Aeria Games didn’t do much in the form of publicizing its release. So little, in fact, that nobody took much notice to the fact that the game’s been down for a few months now.

Yep, FEAR Online shut down on May 13th, giving the game a life span of about seven months, having launched in October the previous year. I gave the game a look and found it to be a decent online shooter with dated graphics, based on a dated engine, with expensive cash shop items.

Dynasty Warriors Online Shutting Down

dynasty

Dynasty Warriors Online is the MMO adaptation of the long running hack and slash, and if you didn’t know it existed, well you understand why it is shutting down. Aeria Games posted a notice that the servers will close on January 10th, at around 8pm eastern. Any AP spent from today onward will be rebated back to the player’s account.

We know and understand this is both sad and frustrating. The closure of a game is always hardest for us at Aeria as we recognize the community’s dedication towards the game but regrettably games can’t last forever. We know it’s the community that matters most and we genuinely hope everyone gets to spend some quality time playing the game together with friends before it’s time to say goodbye.

Is it too late to ask for a Gundam Dynasty Warriors MMO?

F.E.A.R Online Gameplay Video

F.E.A.R is one of my favorite games of the last decade, a story that sounds like someone took the horror elements of The Ring and forced it to have children with a satisfying shooter. While the story wasn’t particularly groundbreaking (scary dead girl seeks revenge), the game managed to pull together a tense atmosphere and an intelligent AI capable of forming its strategy on the fly and actually giving the player a run for their money. Like any western horror story, however, the F.E.A.R franchise shifted dramatically from scary and tense to ridiculous and over the top as the series progressed, almost becoming a parody of itself by F.E.A.R 3 or as it was so creatively named: F.3.A.R

One of F.E.A.R’s more enjoyable yet lesser known features has been the game’s multiplayer modes. Expanding upon the multiplayer, Korean studio Inplay Interactive has announced F.E.A.R Online, published in the United States through Aeria Games. Set for release in the future, F.E.A.R Online will feature ten maps and a number of multiplayer modes, including Soul King where players take the role of ghosts possessing bodies and killing each other for souls. The game will also feature a co-op mode where players take on the NPC hoards of monsters and Armacham soldiers.

Hopefully we will hear more about F.E.A.R Online soon. According to the company’s website, it was set for release in late 2012, however that might just be the Korean launch.

Warning: Scarlet Blade Randomly Deletes Characters

scarlet-blade-closed-beta-launch-620x350

Every once in a while here at MMO Fallout I put out a community warning for specific games. Today I would like to put out a warning for gamers thinking about getting into the free to play MMO Scarlet Blade, or for those who have already started playing and are thinking about investing some cash. Word has come down to MMO Fallout via the online grapevine that Scarlet Blade characters are being randomly deleted, along with all of their items (including cash shop goods). Judging from forum posts, this may be a database bug that already existed in the Eastern version of Scarlet Blade and was brought over when the game was translated for the West.

An Aeria Games GM commented on the bug:

I know that this is a very concerning issue. Please know that we are working with the developers to solve this issue as quickly as we possibly can. We may ask you for what seems to strange information, or to create a new character with the same name. This will help the developers to identify and fix the issue.

Aeria Games has instructed those affected to submit tickets, however in searching the forums I did not come across any players confirming that their items and characters have been restored yet.

Given this information, MMO Fallout recommends that if you are going to play Scarlet Blade, that you do not invest any money in it for the time being. There is a growing number of people threatening to perform chargebacks against Aeria Games who spent hundreds or thousands of dollars into their accounts, so I suggest those of you who are considering doing the same read up on how to perform a proper and legal chargeback.
