Destiny Patch 1.0.2 Drops, Increases Loot

Bungie has dropped patch 1.0.2 onto the Destiny servers, as announced late last month. The patch makes several changes to the way loot works, by ensuring that engrams (loot boxes) will always decrypt into an item of the engram’s level or higher. Legendary engrams are now guaranteed to result in legendary items, and rare engrams have an increased chance of legendary gear. Ascendant shards and energy have been promoted in rank to legendary.  Rare and legendary engrams have also been added as potential drops for daily and weekly heroics, as well as the Tiger Strike playlist.

Destiny Changes Loot, Farming, And More

Bungie has released the details of upcoming patch 1.0.2, aiming at player complaints over the game’s loot system. Starting when the patch goes live next week, engrams will always produce items of the same quality or better than the engram itself. What this means is that players will no longer receive legendary engrams and decode them to find sub-legendary equipment. In addition to this change, heroics and tiger playlists will now also have the possibility for rare and legendary rewards in addition to their existing reward lists. The patch notes caution players that all existing legendary engrams will be demoted to rare quality when the patch goes live.

Last week’s patch aimed at curbing players farming spawn points.

The Old Republic Accidentally Breaks Client, It’s Fixed Now

cathar

The good news is that Star Wars: The Old Republic is now safe to launch. Players who logged in earlier today were surprised to see that their clients had already begun downloading patch 2.4, which isn’t supposed to go live until tomorrow. I say surprised because upon the client restarting, they found out that the game had to completely redownload, all twenty gigabytes. The response to players affected? Bioware suggested maybe not playing until tomorrow’s maintenance, unless you’re alright with sitting through the download.

As some of you have already noticed, we unintentionally released the patch data for Game Update 2.4 this afternoon at 2:46 pm CDT before its scheduled deployment. If you have already begun patching or completed patching, we recommend that you do not run the Launcher until after tomorrow’s maintenance. If you do not run the Launcher until tomorrow, you will only have to patch Game Update 2.4. If you do (or already have) run the Launcher again prior to tomorrow morning’s update, you will need to re-download the entire game client.

The update has been fixed, although people who began patching will still have to download the client, just not as much.

The previous patch data has now been restored. If you are just now logging in, you are fine to play normally. Those of you affected by the patch this afternoon should exit the game and either repatch immediately or wait until after tomorrow morning’s update. Please note that if you repatch today, it will be a larger patch – around 12 gigs, rather than a more normal sized patch tomorrow.

Is it working or is it broken? Only sith deal in absolutes.

Marvel Heroes Patch 1.11 Rolled Back

marvelgame 2013-01-12 13-54-38-45

Patches suck. Everything can seem fine and dandy in the test environment and then once the update goes live everything tends to break down. But enough about my last week, let’s talk about video games. Gazillion Entertainment released patch 1.11 last night for Marvel Heroes, which introduced the Human Torch as a playable character as well as the new system to make it much easier to acquire heroes without having to resort to the cash shop. The update is massive, if you have some time you can head over to this link to read the patch notes. The update contains a heavy amount of balancing on the existing heroes as well.

Unfortunately, as tends to happen with big updates, patch 1.11 rendered the game unplayable. With a few hours of downtime, the team pushed another patch reverting the game back to its pre-1.11 state and has assured gamers that any purchases made will still be there. The servers are coming back up just as this article is published.

City of Steam Sees Patch 1.2, Adds Races

chrome 2013-05-11 07-14-43-11

City of Steam has released patch 1.2, otherwise known as The Vault Unsealed. The update brings a massive amount of changes to the game, chief among which is the inclusion of two new elven races (Draug and Riven) and the raising of the level cap to 32. The new level cap is accompanied by a new wilderness area, a new PvP tournament event, and paragon mode, a higher difficulty version of dungeons. Players will also be subject to a large number of balance and stat changes to the game, and will find that they are no longer able to send items via mail. The folks at Mechanicst Games also removed some of the useless challenge rewards that I talked about in the review.

You can read the full patch notes here. As far as balancing goes, you’re going to have to figure those changes out for yourself.

Xsyon Unveils Economy Patch

Xsyon-logo

Xsyon has announced its first major update for 2013. The update that deployed today focuses on tribal totems, tribe upkeep, and crafting revisions. Players will be happy to see that it is now possible to set up a trading post with their tribe, selling items that they crafted in return for local tribal currencies. In addition, this update marks a transition to new servers and Xsyon should see more frequent patching in the future.  You can find the patch notes below the features below.

New features include:

·         Trade Totems where players can sell their found and crafted good for local tribal currencies.

·         Tribal upkeep system providing bonuses to tribes that keep their reserves stocked.

NCSoft Introduces Newbie Servers To Aion

aion2

Aion is in the process of updating to version 3.9, and players are already patching their clients and getting ready to enjoy all that NCSoft has to deliver. Patch 3.9 brings with it a number of updates, including a mass ban of over seventeen thousand botters, allowing players to run instances with each other across server boundaries, a new instance, and additional storage space. One update which stands out in particular is the introduction of beginner’s servers. One of the chief complaints that I’ve seen here at MMO Fallout regarding Aion is that the game shoves players into pvp areas either before they are ready to face other, higher leveled players. Others simply don’t want to engage in PvP.

In response, update 3.9 brings beginner’s servers, where players can start new characters or transfer their old characters over. Beginner’s servers offer most of the Aion experience with none of the PvP. The server is not without restrictions however, players are unable to trade items to each other, nor can they open up shops. The beginner’s server is a collection of players from other “home” servers, however the auction house on the beginner server will only connect to the individual player’s home server. Sending letters with attachments is disabled and players are unable to capture strongholds.

Luckily, however, you can always transfer back to your home server whenever you’d like. The patch notes indicate that in the future players who opt to stick with the normal servers will enjoy bonus EP and a buff to loot drops.

[DC Universe] SOE Working On US PS3 Server Issues

dc_scr_plyract_met_004_0610

Larry Liberty, who is in fact not a super hero himself but the Executive Producer for DC Universe Online, has stepped up to the forums today to issue a notice for players of DC Universe, specifically those who play on the PS3 servers in the United States. Due to heavy load brought on by the launch of Home Turf, the US PS3 server has been experiencing some unplanned downtime and instability, as well as a few other unforeseen issues. Sony Online Entertainment is working diligently to fix the issues brought forward during yesterday’s mishap and may have to bring the server down again.

You can read the full letter below:

I just wanted to apologize for the unplanned downtime on the USPS3 server.  Server population has been exceptional since the launch of Home Turf, and it’s brought to light two issues that only happen under very high load.  We have addressed one of them already, and are investigating the other.  We will be bringing the server back up with an update that will address several issues that were surfaced yesterday.  Release notes will accompany the update with more information, but there are a bunch of fixes and polish work as well based on community feedback.  One change I wanted to call out was the reduction in the cooldown timer on Base relocation.  We’re changing it from the initial 7-day cooldown to 1-hour.  It may be necessary to come down for an additional server update today.  We’ll monitor load, and broadcast warnings in-game.
