Public Response To Magic: Legends Gameplay Reveal Is Mixed

This week marked the first gameplay reveal of Magic: Legends, shown exclusively through Game Informer, and the reaction from gamers has been mixed. Almost literally 50/50 positive and negative. While players might have been expecting something more along the lines of the Neverwinter MMO from developer Perfect World Entertainment, what they got is more akin to a Diablo game.

In other words, not much of an MMO. Reaction to the Youtube video has been split down the middle, with 848 thumbs up votes and 841 thumbs down. Game Informer has a more in-depth coverage of the game in this month’s issue and you can see more discussion on the game in the latest podcast.

Neverwinter Makes Cosmetic Overrides More User Friendly

Neverwinter players should be happy to hear that the next module coming to the MMORPG will address a longstanding complaint: The appearance system.

The current transmutation system in Neverwinter is, to put it lightly, not optimal. Under the current system you need to destroy a lot of items in order to change the appearance of a single piece of equipment, and when you finally replace that piece you have to go through that process all over again. Under the new system everything is handled by slot instead of by item, so instead of transmuting one item to move its appearance to another, you will instead convert said item into the appearance inventory and be able to select it as an override.

Now, you define how an equipment slot looks, and your equipment takes on that look. If you have an appearance override defined for a slot, anything you put into that slot will take on that appearance automatically without you have to do anything. No matter what you’re actually wearing on your head, it can look like a bright pink fedora! (Fedoras not available in all regions. Some restrictions apply.)

Even better, this system applies to dyes. Instead of having to go out and buy dyes for every single item you want to color, one dye unlocks the color for your library and can be used as many times as you’d like.

Blacklight: Retribution Is Dead, Servers To Shutter March 11 On PC

In regards to Blacklight: Retribution, the writing for the game’s closure has been on the wall for several years now, particularly dating back to 2015 when its developer Zombie Studios shut its doors as well as last year when publisher Hardsuit Labs announced the merger of the US and EU servers into one. Average user numbers dropped to below 100 in August 2018, according to Steam Charts, and the end was inevitable.

As posted on Reddit, PC servers will permanently shut down on March 11. Playstation 4 players, however many there are, have been spared from the shutdown simply due to the fact that there are no in-game servers hosted for it. To thank the remaining players, all items have been unlocked and made free on the PC store.

February 8th
* PC Store unlocked and free
* PC Account migration shut down
March 11th
* PC game servers shut down permanently
* Support shut down

Blacklight: Retribution launched in 2012 from Zombie Studios; creators of the Spec Ops game series. A free to play first person shooter, Blacklight was one of the first free to play games to launch on Playstation 4 alongside Warframe and DC Universe Online.

Perfect World Entertainment this week announced that Mirror of Discovery, the latest expansion, is now available on PC with Xbox and Playstation 4 coming later this year. Star Trek fans will have the opportunity to meet Captain Killy of the Terran Empire, voiced by Mary Wiseman. Leader of the I.S.S. Discovery, Killy is never shown on screen in Star Trek: Discovery, however her reputation as a ruthless leader is often mentioned.

Mirror of Discovery picks up on the story left off by the prior expansion, Age of Discovery. The update in full contains the following new features:

  • Two New Featured Episodes – Captains hailing from all of the game’s various factions can experience two new playable episodes featuring Captain Sylvia Tilly of the Terran Empire.
    • “Para Pacem” – Players will witness the I.S.S. Discovery’s fated confrontation with Klingon forces, in the middle of an ion storm above Pahvo.

  • Anniversary Events – This month, Star Trek Online celebrates nine years of exploring the Star Trek universe from within. To kick off this milestone, the game is bringing back the popular Omega Molecule Stabilization event. Players who stabilize Q’s scattered Omega particles can earn free Omega Particle Tech Upgrades and prize vouchers, redeemable for the new T6 Vulcan Scout Ship featured in Star Trek: Discovery.
  • Personal Endeavor System – Players who enjoy the game’s Endeavor System can now complete unique daily challenges to earn account-wide performance boosts in a wide variety of combat mechanics.

Perfect World Entertainment To Shutter War of the Immortals/Battle of the Immortals

War is immortal, unless of course you’re referring to Perfect World Entertainment’s War of the Immortals which is one hundred percent mortal. Perfect World today announced that two titles in its library will be shutting down next week, those being War of the Immortals and Battle of the Immortals. Both titles have been in operation for six years and will close down as of January 9 when the servers go down for good.

All payments from September 1 through December 14 will be credited back to your Arc account.

All WOI payments from September 1st, 2017 through December 14th, 2017 @ 11 AM PT will be converted into Arc credit and allocated to your account. These credits can be used in any of the other PWE games. Arc Points between this same time period will also be refunded to your account.

There was no official reason given for the shutdown, however activity on the forum would seem to indicate that this may be a standard case of low traffic/revenue.
