On the Steam platform.
Ubisoft may be coming back to Steam sooner than we thought. Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced in an investor call that they might consider bringing games to the Steam Deck if it is big enough. Well it appears the company is getting everything ready for the Deck launch, as Steam’s depot files are showing signs of Ubisoft life.
Earlier today an app appeared for the Ubisoft Connect PC Client. As of right now it’s nothing more than a name on an appid, along with a 142mb client. Steam won’t let you install it, and there is no store page at the moment. Ubisoft Connect is of course the client used by Ubisoft to run their games, similar to how EA has Origin.
When will Ubisoft fully come back to Steam? We’re assuming everything was set up for a launch sometime around the original Steam Deck launch date which would have been sometime in December. Whether Ubisoft is going to forge ahead regardless now that the Steam Deck won’t be out until early 2022 is yet to be seen.
We’ve asked Ubisoft for comment and will update if we get a response.
