Elite Dangerous Ceases Console Development

Outside of major fixes.

Elite: Dangerous is ending console development. After six years on Xbox One and five years on PlayStation 4, Elite developer Frontier Developments is saying thanks for the dough, but go away now. In a post on the forums, Frontier Developments noted that all future console development will be cancelled, including any plans for ports on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The reason given is to allow the team to focus on one single codebase, as the console and PC versions of the game were running separate versions.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

For console players hoping to move their save games over to PC, while the team is “exploring options” there is nothing to announce for transferring data.
