Marvel Heroes Welcomes Black Bolt

Marvel Heroes has updated with its 61st playable hero: Black Bolt. If you’re scratching your head wondering who Black Bolt is, you can find extra reading material here. Black Bolt first appeared in Fantastic Four in 1965 and his super power is his voice.

Having experienced terrigenesis before he was born, Blackagar Boltagon was granted frighteningly destructive powers. With a voice strong enough to destroy whole worlds, his parents would isolate and teach him to control his abilities. Finding silent companionship in one of his few visitors, Medusalith Amaquelin, the two’s romance would blossom into marriage.

But when Blackagar used his voice to protect the city, many lives of the Inhumans’ leading council were lost–including his parents. Blackagar reluctantly inherited the mantle of King of the Inhumans with Medusalith at his side. Though he justly serves the people of Attilan through the wise words his council, he chooses his own words to protect Attilan from those who would put the Inhumans in danger.

Marvel Heroes Biggest Update Ever Hits Servers Today

The Marvel Heroes “Biggest Update Ever” is finally ready to go live today, as the official forums have posted an announcement for players to expect the servers to go down at noon Pacific with downtime of four hours.

The Marvel Heroes 2016 servers will be going offline at 12 PM PST for the Biggest Update Ever. Downtime is expected to last up to 4 hours.

Marvel’s biggest update ever was announced earlier this year as a part of the game’s yearly major updates. Gazillion is massively changing the way you play the game, from the removal of power points to the replacement of specialization with talents, and the removal of the omega system which is being replaced by a more streamlined infinity system (an alternate advancement system similar to Paragon in Diablo).

The update is sure to be divisive, and MMO Fallout will be covering some of the more major changes with an MMOments coming sometime this week. For details on the update, check out the link below.

Marvel Heroes Vaulting Boosts, Get Them Now Before They’re Gone

Marvel Heroes is shelving a large number of boosts currently available in the store, and Gazillion is advising that you pick them up now while you still can. Starting next Tuesday, January 17, Marvel Heroes will remove any boost with rare item find and special item find from the store, as well as removing these items from their associated fortune cards and mystery boxes. The boosts themselves are not going away, and their effects will still be usable once the items are removed.

The reason for the removal is to keep the store cleaner and more streamlined, especially with a new bonus item find boost on its way. You will be able to convert your RIF and SIF boosts to tokens and use those for the new BIF boost. All of this is gearing up for Marvel Heroes’ next massive update. The list of items being removed from the store are below.

Marvel Heroes Unveils Biggest System Update Ever

MarvelHeroes2015 2015-06-26 21-43-49-03

Marvel Heroes is gearing up to completely overhaul their titular ARPG, and everyone is invited to the party. As announced this week, over the span of several updates Gazillion Entertainment will be making major changes to how you level up and how you play in Marvel Heroes going forward. Long time players are well acquainted with the regular New 52 updates, bringing heroes up to date and tweaking them for the modern mechanics, but can you handle every character changing at once?

That’s right. Every single Hero in the game will be receiving a design update. All. At. Once.Naturally, we are spending more time on this project than most of our previous updates. In this post, we will be discussing three systems involved in this endeavor: Power Points, Talents, and Traits.

The most immediate change is going to be in powers. No longer will players have to level up to unlock powers and then stick points into those to make them viable. All powers will be viable as soon as they are unlocked, with power points being placed into your base stats. Items that affected powers previously will be updated to be just as useful as they were before. Secondly, all heroes will have five sets of talents. Talents exist in their own tree and can offer passive bonuses, mechanical changes, and even replace powers entirely.

Third, all heroes will now have one defensive and one offensive passive trait, themed after the character and unique to each person.

Marvel Heroes is no stranger to massive annual updates, these types of updates are what transformed a mostly mediocre launch into the game that it is today.

Top MMOs That Need To Come To Consoles

Bloodshade1_cp0

The current generation of consoles have played host to a major surge in massively multiplayer games, with new titles releasing and being announced every month. To date, console gamers can enjoy titles like DC Universe, Planetside 2, Neverwinter, Final Fantasy XIV, Elder Scrolls Online, and more. With Star Trek Online recently announced for both Xbox and Playstation, MMO Fallout has decided to give its list of MMOs that need to make their way to the comfy couch.

MarvelHeroes2015 2015-06-26 22-49-05-29

1. Marvel Heroes

Now that Marvel Heroes has gamepad support, a launch on Xbox and Playstation is the next logical step. Imagine the appeal of sitting on your comfy couch and beating the crap out of Magneto as Captain America, or even as Magneto since he’s a playable hero now. Since both consoles support free to play fully, with open talks of cross-platform play, it isn’t entirely out of the question to see people on all three consoles playing together in harmony.

While Marvel Heroes hasn’t been confirmed for console launch, the prospect hasn’t been denied either. There were initially plans for release on PS3 and 360, which were scrapped after the game launched for a variety of reasons, including a need to focus resources on fixing what had been a heavily panned launch on PC.

2. Age of Conan

With Exiles set for release on consoles and Funcom on a tight budget, the odds of seeing Age of Conan come to Playstation and Xbox are probably slim to none. That being said, the game’s action combat could find itself perfectly at home with a controller, and the free to play model would introduce the game to a whole new category of gamer.

Incidentally, Age of Conan was also meant to come to consoles. Initially confirmed for launch on the Xbox 360, it took Funcom until 2011 to admit that the game wasn’t coming out, likely out of a combination of the poor reception of the PC version at launch and the technical limitations of the Xbox. Regardless, the game could find a new home on PS4/Xb1.

3. APB: All Points Bullet

Unlike the previous games on this list, APB is still hoping for a console launch, with Deep Silver confirming the game’s release in Q2 2015. While we are now one year late, and still without a current launch date, it is unknown exactly when the game will be coming out. Regardless, a third person shooter with cooperative/competitive elements is a sure fit for the consoles, albeit one that is now pretty dated.

You’ll notice a trend that these titles were previously confirmed for launch on Xbox 360 only to have their development quietly cancelled later on. A lot of developers wanted to be the first not-Final Fantasy MMO on Xbox 360, only to face the harsh realities of developing, releasing, and maintaining such a title and dealing with Microsoft’s policies of the time.

4. Champions Online

Since Star Trek Online and Neverwinter have console ports, it only makes sense to go back and bring back the title that started it all, Champions Online. Considering that, like most other games on this list, Champions Online was originally supposed to launch on the Xbox 360, it makes sense that Cryptic Studios already had a design drawn up on how to get the game working comfortably on consoles.

Much like Star Trek Online, Champions Online has a ton of content built up over years of development with fairly little competition on the consoles. Apart from DC Universe, there aren’t really any online super hero games to play on Xbox.

5. Heroes & Generals

It’s been a long time since console World War 2 shooters were fruitful and plenty. We haven’t seen a WW2 Call of Duty since 2008, Medal of Honor dropped out in 2007, Brothers in Arms was 2008, and Battlefield 2009. There is Battalion 1944 coming out in 2017, but otherwise the genre is pretty much dead on home consoles.

Heroes & Generals is just what the doctor ordered, a first person shooter that is still consistently updated, with plenty of replayability and a long progression system, and a genre that is ripe for the picking. Heroes & Generals is still in early access, so a console launch isn’t even being planned at this point while the PC version is finished.
