Neverwinter New Changes to Dungeons, 15% VIP Sale

Today’s Neverwinter patch doesn’t just introduce the Gift of Tymora event, it also marks the start of a 15% VIP sale. VIP in Neverwinter acts like a subscription for other MMOs, with bonuses that continue adding with each month that you subscribe adding to a rank that never decreases even if your subscription does.

In other news, today’s update is accompanied by details to changes to in-game content. Foremost, the rewards system is being reworked to give rarer rewards more often, including artifacts, companions, mounts, and more. The game will announce to your group when you obtain some rare piece of loot, with Perfect World also mentioning that the announcement is not global (not to add to the game’s already spammy announcements), and finally the last item on the list is a useful items inventory tab, for things that you need but don’t use all that often like fishing poles, keys, etc. The useful items tab will help clean up your inventory.

Screenshots: Final Fantasy XIV Patch 3.5

Final Fantasy XIV is set to launch patch 3.5, The Far Edge of Fate, and Square Enix is sharing a ton of new content screenshots. Seriously, the few that I have curated are just a sample of the massive amount of media that Square has released. Topping the list of new content is Dun Scaith, a 24 player alliance raid requiring level 60 in any disciple of war or magic, as well as an unknown item requirement and completion of the Freedom of our Skies quest. A major update to the party finder will allow players to group up with players on any world on the same datacenter, it will be possible to change the color of your egi, and you will go head to head with the final pillar of the Triad, Zurvan the Demon (req level 60, eight players, and completing Balance unto All.).

If you head over to the Final Fantasy website, you can read numerous previews of patch 3.5, coming later this month.

Black Desert Online Previews Ninja/Kunoichi Classes

BlackDesert_Pc_01

Black Desert Online is previewing its July 20th update, introducing the ninja and kunoichi classes as announced by Kakao Games (Formerly Daum). The update also introduces a skill addon system, allowing attacks to be customized with up to two effects.

Prior to this update on the 20th, Black Desert Online players will see the launch of node and siege warfare on July 17th. Patch notes are available on the main forums.

The Ninja is an agile close-quarters combatant. With dashes, aerial skills, and even teleportation, Ninjas can get up close to their opponents alarmingly fast. Designed to land precise, deadly strikes, both the Ninja and Kunoichi can conceal themselves until the time is right. When in a tight spot, Ninjas can also make use of stun and debuff techniques to regain the upper hand.

The Kunoichi fights in much the same style as the Ninja but specializes in deflecting attacks with her trusty Kunai. A defensive force to be reckoned with, the Kunoichi uses her sharp senses to execute perfectly timed blocks before landing devastating counterattacks.

[Overwatch] Torbjörn Is Getting Nerfed On Consoles

McCree_02

It’s conceivable that, over time, Overwatch will be a rather different game on PC and consoles. In response to a thread on Reddit, Blizzard director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that Overwatch hero Torbjörn will be on the receiving end of the nerf bat next month.

In an upcoming patch, we will reduce the damage done by Torbjörn’s turret by 30% on Xbox One and PS4. PC will remain unchanged.

The patch is expected to go live mid to late July.

Rift Forces Cash Shop, Trion Worlds “It’s Just Business”

riftfae1x

Is Rift having financial difficulties? It sounds like a loaded question, but it’s one that many are asking in regards to a recent update and Trion Worlds’ response to player criticism. Today’s update removed the ability to purchase earring slots and Planewalker: Water via runestones, a grindable currency, making them available only through purchases in the cash shop. While players are perfectly capable of grinding in-game currency to buy REX, many players have pointed out that the platinum limit on free accounts is lower than the cost of REX, making it impossible to obtain the items without first throwing some money down on your account.

Trion’s reason for the change has similarly been met with controversy, responding that “this is a business decision,” according to community manager Eric Cleaver.

Ultimately this is a business decision, to best support RIFT moving forward into the future. We’re on the cusp right now of RIFT’s 5th Anniversary, and we’ve got great stuff planned for 2016. But that stuff takes Engineers and Designers and CS and QA and a whole lot of other folks.

Having a large team producing amazing things is a benefit to everyone who loves RIFT, both those making it and those who play it. But making games like RIFT is expensive. and so we need to sell things in game to pay those folks. We try to offer a variety of services that appeal to a broad selection of folks. Sometimes we try one thing, sometimes we try another. But it’s always a learning experience.

Both Earring Slots and Planewalker: Water went through a number of iterations during development before release, and when Nightmare Tide did release we decided at that time to allow them to be acquired via either a substantial investment of time via Voidstones or with purchase of a Nightmare Tide Collectors Edition. It’s been over a year now since that release, and the team has decided to move in a slightly different direction with these unlocks.

Incidentally, the update comes alongside a change to Rift’s referral program, and no longer allows for players to use their referral points to purchase REX.

DarkScape Knocks Out Griefing Via Patch

pain

In my tips for DarkScape, I made note for players to be aware of a griefing method where players repeatedly run into a bank, only to be immediately killed and explode, doing damage to those in the bank. In fact, the latest update to RuneScape addresses several points in my article. In addition to adding a toolbelt to mitigate the need to buy/haul your crafting tools around, Jagex has added mechanics to prevent one form of griefing:

The guards are also wising up to some of the methods players have been using to avoid punishment – watch this space!

According to players on the forums, guards will now use smite against the players they attack, draining their prayer instantly and preventing them from using retribution (explode on death) and keep item (allows players to keep an extra item on death).

Today’s Neverwinter Patch Balances Experience/Monsters

bdc58a92a01aab7dd6393ae1e0f45e691436282669

Neverwinter version NW.50.20150722a.15 will go live at around 9am Pacific today, with the servers going down at six to implement the update, but it brings with it a whole slate of balances to the post-60 experience. In regards to the Elemental Evil module which has seen a fair amount of criticism, the experience rewarded by Vigilance tasks will be greatly improved. Additionally, enemies from level 61 to 70 will have their health reduced substantially and damage reduced slightly.

In addition to these updates, Domination PVP will once again be reenabled thanks to fixes that will hopefully ensure that the game fills both teams before beginning. VIP features will be available to characters right out of the gate rather than after level 5.

Perfect World Entertainment is still in the process of patching in balances to Neverwinter following the launch of the Elemental Evil module. The update received heavy criticism over the length to level from 60 to 70, difficulty of monsters, and heavily altering or outright removing content including dungeons while re-using content for new areas. Today’s patch is part of an ongoing process in response to player complaints.

Neverwinter Details Further Leveling Changes

neverwinter_scourge_warlock_071414_3_wm

Scott Shicoff, lead designer on Neverwinter, has posted a set of patch notes on the official website detailing further changes to the MMO’s leveling curve. The new level cap of 70 has seen intense scrutiny since its launch earlier this year alongside Elemental Evil, with players complaints ranging from the length of time required to level to the heavy difficulty of the new higher level mobs. Following launch, Perfect World has promised to go back and fix issues related to progression and difficulty.

Hey folks, I’ve got an update on some changes we’re making to Neverwinter, specifically regarding leveling from 60 to 70. Before I get started, I’d like to thank you all again for your patience as I investigated and reviewed the state of the game since the release of Elemental Evil. We went through a massive amount of feedback and analysis before making a decision.

Most of the updates in the latest patch are focused on reducing health buffs on NPCs above level 60, along with a buff to experience from quests in the Elemental Evil zones that should result in a “noticeably faster” progression from 60 to 70. It isn’t the last of the updates to fix the community’s grievances with Elemental Evil, so expect more patches in the coming weeks/months. For now however players should notice themselves being killed by mobs in a single shot, far less.

Other ongoing complaints from the forums include bringing back disabled dungeons.

Marvel Heroes Patch Introduces Major Bugs, Emergency Maintenance Coming

MarvelHeroes2015 2015-07-16 22-10-10-06

Gazillion Entertainment launched the latest patch for Marvel Heroes, leaving a lot of broken pieces in its wake. Players are reporting latency issues, poor performance in certain areas, and an inability to get into the game at all. To top things off, some (including yours truly) are experiencing disconnections with the error “error saving characters, please contact support,” kicking them off of the server and losing approximately ten minutes of progression in the process.

There are a metric ton of errors being reported across the game and cash shop as part of the patch, and the general consensus among many is to just leave the game alone until Gazillion has a chance to fix it. Luckily, an emergency patch is set to go live in a few hours, at 10pm Pacific (1am Eastern).

We’re currently planning for the emergency patch to fix this issue and a few others for 10PM PDT tonight. Will keep you updated once I know for sure with an officiall announcement.

For those of you who were looking to get your Marvel Heroes fill tonight, well you can always brave it out and hope you don’t get hit by the ‘error saving characters’ bug. Just be aware that if you open up lockboxes and you get disconnected losing your progress, you’ll have to re-open them.
