DUST 514 Will Shut Down In May

DUST514_TitanCrashed_1

CCP Games has announced that their console shooter DUST 514 will be shutting down later this year. Initially launched on the Playstation 3 in 2013, DUST never really caught on with either the Eve Online community or the console community. The idea was pretty unique, players in DUST would form corporations that would fight over territory control on planets in the Eve universe, contracted by players in the MMO. Unfortunately the game failed to catch on with shooter fans, who had numerous other well-established console shooters, and Eve players who heavily criticized the game only being available on consoles.

We are very proud of what we’ve learned and accomplished with DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 over the past three years and it is an honor to be a part of such a dedicated community. We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th, 2016.

The forum post announcing the sunsetting also mentions a new PC shooter set in the Eve universe, to be given more detail at Eve Fanfest in April. The most loyal DUST players can expect some sort of recognition when this game comes around.

APB: Reloaded Coming To Consoles

Console players should get ready to enforce (or break) the law, as Reloaded Entertainment has announced that APB: Reloaded will release on Xbox One and Playstation 4. The console port is currently under development by The Workshop Entertainment, APB is expected to launch on current gen consoles in Q2 2015. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver Media, stated:

APB Reloaded has become a phenomenon on the PC with a very passionate and faithful community. We are really thrilled to help Reloaded Games and The Workshop bring this fantastic world to life on the new generation consoles.”

The game will still be free to play on both consoles, however Xbox players will need Xbox Live Gold in order to play. Playstation Plus was not mentioned as a requirement for PS4.

All Points Bulletin Coming To Consoles

This console generation is a good time to play your favorite MMOs on the couch, or at least it will be over the next year or so. Already host to the likes of DC Universe Online and Final Fantasy XIV, we still have Planetside 2, Everquest Next, Warframe, Neverwinter, and SMITE coming to one or both consoles at some point in the future. Reloaded Productions is the latest title to jump on board the console wagon with the announcement that APB: Reloaded will be hitting Xbox One and Playstation 4 next year.

Reloaded Productions would like to allow players to transfer characters, but is meeting heavy resistance on the idea by Sony and Microsoft.

Not Massive: Sony Won't Ban You For Early Playing

GTA_V_59100

If my childhood is anything to go off of, Sony’s consistent public contradiction of Microsoft is going to net them a belt buckle to the head, you know once the two are out of the public view. Take Two and Rockstar Games have been going insane with shutting down any outlet for pre-release Grand Theft Auto V goodies, going as far as apparently threatening legal action against some publications. Look around and you’ll find a pile of now banned accounts on Livestream, Youtube, and more.

Microsoft has continued their policy of working in tandem with the publisher and handing out console bans to anyone caught leaking pre-release gameplay, IE: Anyone caught streaming or posting screenshots/captures of their gameplay online. It is important to the conversation to point out that the bans are related to the leaking of game footage before the official street date, and not the mere act of playing the game.

Enter Sony, a company whose past few months of public relations can be whittled down to “the opposite of what Microsoft just said.” Sony is not banning anyone with a legitimate copy of GTA V who post footage of their game online before Tuesday’s launch, a move that will likely net them brownie points with the gaming community if at the expense of Rockstar’s goodwill.

If you do manage to get ahold of a copy, you’re pretty safe as long as you don’t start streaming or leaking footage.

Final Fantasy XI On Playstation Vita? Not on PS3

I believe Sony has talked before about the Playstation Vita being capable of supporting MMO platforms, and it appears that Square Enix is the first company to step up to the plate and give consideration to the concept. Siliconera is reporting that Square Enix has a vested interest in porting Final Fantasy XI over to the Playstation Vita with no timetable on anything. The plans themselves are not complete, and there is no guarantee this will actually work, come to fruition, or be viable over the Vita.

There are no plans for a PS3 port of Final Fantasy XI, however, as the process is a lot more complicated and Square is likely hard at work on keeping what will be the release version of Final Fantasy XIV on the PS3 up to date with the PC development.

Still, this is an interesting concept. If some MMOs appear on the Vita, it might just give me an incentive to buy the thing. You know what I’m thinking…Hello Kitty Online: Vita.
