ArcheAge Welcome Back Package Turns Sour

ARCHEAGE 2014-10-10 12-02-23-78

Update: Trion has laid out its plans here.

Trion Worlds is a company that we see a lot of complaints about here at MMO Fallout, but being too generous is a new one. The developer recently tried to bring back ArcheAge players with lapsed subscriptions by sending emails offering free stuff. Many players received about what you’d expect from such a program: RNG boxes, cosmetic mounts, some resources, etc. Others, however, found themselves the new owners of rare materials, and even gift packages that normally sell for $100 on the cash shop.

Needless to say players are livid, a phrase that seems all too common when talking about ArcheAge. Trion, for their part, have acknowledged that they went too far in what constitutes an acceptable gift and will be addressing the matter further.

We need to ensure our existing loyal patrons and players never feel slighted when we implement programs like this. It’s important for us to treat our community fairly and to do this we are designing a giveaway for all active ArcheAge players. We will have more details tomorrow after internal discussions occur around development of the program.

Final Fantasy XI Shutting Down On PS2/360

cid_fr

Square Enix’s Thursday Livestream has come and gone, and the announcements were not all great. Square unveiled the Vana’Diel Project, a three part strategy to continue support for the aging MMO. The first part, unfortunately, involves ending content updates. Following a three chapter scenario aimed for launch in May, August, and November, Final Fantasy XI will cease to receive content updates.

FINAL FANTASY XI’s major version updates will conclude with the implementation of the final chapter of Rhapsodies of Vana’diel, but there will continue to be minor version updates that address bugs and contain various balance adjustments.

Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 users will be sad to hear that services for those platforms will end in March 2016. Final Fantasy XI will be ported to be playable on mobile devices, alongside the launch of a mobile RPG in 2016.

Carbine Studios Details Contracts

ws_2015_03_contracts_02

Wildstar’s next update, Invasion: Nexus, is on its way to clients everywhere soon. As part of the update, Carbine Studios is working on introducing contracts, daily quests that players can partake in at level 50 that are designed to be completed in a short amount of time. The goal of contracts, according to Carbine, is to “enable players to make steady progress toward powerful gear and give them even more reasons to stay and play on Nexus.”

Contracts are divided into three difficulty levels and two categories (PvE and PvP) with players able to complete as many of the easiest contracts as they’d like. Contracts reward points, prestige, gear, and glory, with extra bonuses as the player accumulates more points.

Return to ROBLOX: A Highlight in Creativity

RobloxPlayerBeta 2015-03-08 19-53-49-85

I’ve been meaning to dive back into ROBLOX and see what the community is up to these days. Luckily for me, I had some free time in the couple of days leading up to my septum surgery to look about and come up with a few more creative highlights to show you all. The creation pictured above is Hunting Simulator 2015 Beta, which I haven’t listed because it currently costs 25 Robux to get in.

I’ll be doing more of these in the future. If you’d like to submit a creation for future pieces, throw me a message on my ROBLOX account.

RobloxPlayerBeta 2015-03-08 20-04-45-95

1. Call of Robloxia 5

Whenever I return to Roblox, I have to stop and see how Call of Robloxia is progressing. This is easily the most impressive game I’ve seen on ROBLOX, not just on the technical side of the vast number of weapons/attachments, but the dedication of its creator(s) to keep the project going after six years. The end result, so far, is a game that handles as fluidly as something you’d expect to pay for, tied to a progression system that’s bound to keep you addicted.

I usually try to get what I can in a timely manner with these spotlights, but I have to admit this one wound up taking a fair bit of my time. Also I have no idea what this is, but it gave me a good chuckle.

2. Fall Down The Longest Hole

Mini-game collections are like the bread and butter of ROBLOX, and I have to say hold a special place in my heart. It’s the simplicity of their design that makes these collections so much fun, and I love looking through each version to see how the creator has added his own touch. You can also see how Roblox happens to be trending at the time based on the theme of the levels.

3. Speed Run 4

I spent a lot more time than expected while checking out this creation, before resigning myself to defeat at the last five feet of the last level. Speed Run 4 is a speed run game (go figure) where you run quickly and jump across obstacles while collecting cards. This one was pretty challenging, and I will admit ultimately beat me out in the end, on the last level.

Check out Speed Run 4 here.

[Special Mention]  Apocalypse Rising

I discovered this one thanks to its creator in the comments section of another creation. The comment said “don’t visit my creation,” so I didn’t.

It’s closed to the public now.

3000AD Reconsidering Free To Play After Weekend

2015-01-02-0028-600x338

Line of Defense, MMO Shooter currently in an early state of development, recently ran a free play weekend that has developer 3000AD rethinking whether or not free weekends will be on the menu for the future. Derek Smart slammed the negative reviews as “disingenuous” and criticized gamers for not reading the documentation provided, not understanding early access, and blaming the game for their low-end computers.

This will probably be our first and our last free play weekend because clearly “free” sometimes tends to attract the wrong demographic. We did this in order to test an aspect of the game that couldn’t have other wise been tested due to the fact that the paid EA tiers have no access to the F2P Starter Kit. So now that we know it works and that SteamWorks entitlement, auth etc are solid; Q.E.D.

Thursday Livestream Will Discuss Final Fantasy XI’s Future

cid_fr

Square Enix will be holding a livestream this Thursday to discuss the future of Final Fantasy XI. Considering that this is a Japanese livestream, however, you’ll need to be up pretty early (3am EST) and probably understand Japanese. For the rest of you who need your beauty sleep, the dedicated community will no doubt have the important notes available in your preferred language by the time you wake up.

Speculation is already rampant on what this announcement could be, from buy to play to losing legacy support, sunsetting, and a new expansion.

Perfect World Wallet Shutdown Imminent

neverwinter_scourge_warlock_071414_3_wm

Perfect World Entertainment has issued a news update reminding players that the Perfect World Wallet system will shut down on Tuesday March 17th. Anyone with Zen still in their wallet will have it automatically transfer over to the new Arc wallet.

The migration will take a couple of days and won’t affect your ability to access Arc or any of our games. For any users who still use the Wallet system, never fear, the handy Charge system will be your go-to place to purchase any in-game currency. The Charge system is extremely similar to the Wallet system where you choose a game from the list, the server and method of payment.

Anyone already using the arc wallet will not be affected.
