Cash Shop Trading Coming To Riders of Icarus

Riders of Icarus

Pop quiz: Name one way in which developers have successfully decreased gold farming while raising revenue. If you guessed tradeable cash shop items, you are correct. Riders of Icarus is the latest title to jump on board the trading bandwagon with the announcement that a new section of the shop will allow players to buy tradeable goods that can be bought and sold on the auction house.

NX Plus is a new section of Ellora’s Shop that’s coming in the next update. Riders can buy items within the NX Plus tab with NX Prepaid and those items are tradable or can be sold on the Auction House!  This new feature will allow more Riders access to more items from Ellora’s Shop. Riders who have gold but lack NX can buy these items as they’re placed on the open market, allowing those Riders access to items previously unavailable to them. Only the items purchased directly from the NX Plus tab can be traded and only when the items are not used or otherwise bound to a Rider.

What’s the catch? Unlike in other titles, the items available on the NX Plus portion of the cash shop won’t be static, they rotate in and out every so often making some items only available for a short period of time. You’ll have to catch the items you want as they are available.

Daybreak Game Company Might Have A New Game Coming

gamecards_usa

Daybreak Game Company appears to be working on a new title, a large scale FPS that might be named Mythwarden. According to a number of sleuths folks on Reddit, Daybreak has opened a position for Senior Game Designer, specifically to implement core systems into a large scale FPS game. Other eyes have noticed that Daybreak has registered the domain for Mythwarden. Whether the two are related will have to be seen, for now all we can do is speculation.

And play Battlefield 1. That is also an option.

Darkfall: Rise of Agon Offers Free Game Time

night_in_yssam

Darkfall: Unholy Wars is still dead, however while Aventurine was forced to shut down, but two companies have licensed the game and are looking to create their own reimagining of the original (and some would argue better) original Darkfall release. Rise of Agon is one of those two titles, and the folks at Big Picture Games released the latest set of patch notes today dealing with all manner of various tweaks.

For those still on the fence, you will be able to access the game for free beginning October 14th and continuing to October 24th.

On Friday, October 14th after server maintenance until the server maintenance of Monday, October 24th, Darkfall: Rise of Agon will be free to play for everyone. New players who wish to try Darkfall for the first time or players interested in trying out some of the new changes will be able to do so during this free period. We would like to call on our veterans to provide assistance and take in new players who try the game and help show them what the game has to offer. We plan to host events during this time and hope to see both new and old faces out on the battlefield! Stay tuned for more information later this week.

Daybreak Game Company Promises Support For H1Z1: Just Survive

2015-01-16_00025

Ever since Daybreak Game Company split H1Z1 into its two parts, players of the environmentally focused Just Survive have grown pretty frustrated over a perceived lack of support. It wouldn’t surprise many to hear that King of the Kill has been receiving the bulk of DGC’s attention, especially when you consider that the game draws in about ten times the average traffic on Steam. H1Z1’s new General Manager Landon Montgomery has taken to Reddit to let players know that their voices are being heard, and the Just Survive team is working on improvements.

During the short time I have been here, I’ve been able to assess the Just Survive history both internally and externally. And, while I recognize that the past year has been a little frustrating for the loyal crowd, I know that the internal team is excited to push forward and do right by you, the players. It’s one of the reasons I’m here and why we’re actively building up the Just Survive team. We’ve added several key roles and we are excited to introduce these additional team members in the coming weeks.

We wish Landon Montgomery the best of luck in his new position. He’s going to need it.

Neverwinter Details Fishing/Sailing In Coming Update

1f40293e1c2ce58dfd52b7a425d573541475861056

With Neverwinter’s next big update on the way, the team at Perfect World Entertainment has released a new developer blog detailing a couple of the new systems. With the Sea of Moving Ice update, players will gain access to their own khyeks, a personal boat that will allow them to navigate the open waters. In addition to providing safe voyage and preventing you from becoming the next Jack Dawson, khyeks also open access to a new form of fishing.

In fishing, you’ll be able to set your own bait, cast your line, set your hook, and reel in some big catches. The list of fish to add to your collection is pretty big (see above), but there’s more than just snagging sea life. Adventurers will also be able to find treasure maps tucked away in bottles, leading to all sorts of loot including high tier fishing rods and khyeks.

Daybreak Continues Shrinking: Cutting Cash Cards

gamecards_usa

The continued shrinking of Daybreak Game Company, formerly Sony Online Entertainment, continues today with the announcement that the company’s cash cards will no longer be sold in stores this year. According to the post, there are no plans to bring back said cash cards in the foreseeable future.

The details of the plan are a little confusing. The notice was posted today (10/4) noting that retailers should have begun removing them as of September 26th. After November 8th, the cards will no longer activate and thus cannot be purchased even if a retailer leaves them on the shelf (because they need to be activated), but the website also says that as long as a card was purchased “before October 7,” it will still be redeemable.

The option to convert Daybreak Cash into H1Z1 currency will be available until December 31st.

Daybreak’s takeover of Sony Online Entertainment in February 2015 led to deep cuts, including major layoffs and the cancellation of Everquest Next. While not a guarantee, the fact that Daybreak is cutting its physical stock could mean the company is still facing financial woes.

Digital Homicide’s Business Destroyed, Lawsuit Against Steam Users Ends

ss_5884a5bc03c163727ca5cb2e5953b68191546d58.1920x1080

The lawsuit by James Romine against 100 unknown Steam users has come to an end. A few days ago, Romine filed a motion for extension of time or dismissal without prejudice, effectively asking the court to either grant him more time or to kill the case until a future date. The reason, as stated in the documents, is as such:

“Upon filing this case, per advice of the local sheriff who could not help me or my business with a massive ARS-13-2921 criminal harassment problem on an Internet Store front and via email, the Plaintiffs business was destroyed completely financially disabling The Plaintiff, destroying usability of all current work effort, and untold other damages.”

If you haven’t been keeping track, Valve responded to a submitted subpoena by terminating their business agreement with Digital Homicide, citing hostility toward customers as a primary reason. As a result, Digital Homicide lost access to a platform that holds at least 70% of the PC gaming community. As such, according to documents filed with the clerk on 9/27, Romine is unable to afford the cost of serving the defendants in said Steam case. Romine had initially asked for either a 90 day suspension or a refund of filing fees and a dismissal without prejudice, which would allow the case to be pursued at a later date.

The court, under the Honorable Stephen M. McNamee, has approved decision #2 and dismissed the case without prejudice. As of September 30th, the case has been terminated. MMO Fallout will update should the case be renewed in the future.

Randy Pitchford Denies “Reckless” Battleborn F2P Rumors

battleborn_incursion_3p_combat_01

Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has denied “reckless” rumors that Battleborn is going free to play, following a report by Kotaku.

While there are no plans to make Battleborn free to play, Pitchford later confirmed that the game will have a limited free trial at some point in the coming months. Until that point, which is not until months from now, Gearbox has committed to continuing to release DLC and continue to support the game as it exists.

Battleborn has slipped hard on PC, with 657 people playing at peak concurrency over the past 30 days or so. The details of Battleborn’s free trial will no doubt be revealed in the months to come.
