ArcheAge Unchained Is Here For You Pay To Win Haters

ArcheAge Unchained is here and the servers are already being pounded like a Salvation Army drum.

Unchained has been in the works for a couple of years now and aims to provide a different service for ArcheAge players who wish to avoid the pay to win aspects of the main game. As a buy to play game, Gamigo has promised that Unchained will not allow you to buy your way to power. Starter packs begin at $25.99, although you might be better off waiting for a couple of days until the initial rush dies down.

Gamigo Immediately Cans Plans For Gifting Premium Items in ArcheAge Unchained

Gamigo has dumpstered an idea so fast, the news was barely able to report the original story.

Today’s ArcheAge stream caused a bit of an uproar when Gamigo announced that they were going to allow gifting premium items from the cash shop on ArcheAge Unchained. Since Unchained is supposed to be the version that didn’t support pay to win, the community had a bit of a problem with this strategy. As a result, a number of viewers took to the ArcheAge Reddit to voice their concern.

And Gamigo has listened, and immediately put out a statement that this is no longer going to be the case. The statement has been pasted below for your viewing pleasure.

Hello everyone,
The ability to gift items from the in-game premium marketplace has been disabled for ArcheAge: Unchained.

We are committed to ensuring that our revised game-play experience meets the expectations of our supportive community and is in no way clouded by our past. We considered allowing the ability to gift from the marketplace due to the items being trade restricted and cosmetic. In hindsight, it’s easy to understand how gifting could circumvent the items being bound. The decision to remove gifting was unanimous internally and so it is passed into order.

We’ve worked closely with you over the past six weeks to refine offerings in the premium item shop based on the following criteria:
-All premium items are cosmetic in nature, or provide a non-essential game-play service (renames, costumes, character appearance customization, or UCC)
-All premium items are bound to the character that purchased them and are not tradable through any in-game system (mail, auction house, storage chests, player-to-player trades)
-The gifting of premium items has been disabled

We stand behind our approach to delivering ArcheAge: Unchained and more importantly, remain devoted to you. Thanks for your continued support.

ArcheAge Unchained Gets Chained To An October Delay

ArcheAge Unchained is all set to launch on September 30, by which I mean it is all set to launch on October 15.

The delay was announced just a couple of days ago on Gamigo’s stream and sent out some PR emails afterward confirming that the buy to play sidestep will indeed be delayed until mid next month.

“The gamigo group announces that the release date of the anticipated Online-MMORPG ArcheAge: Unchained has been moved to October 15th, 2019. The German publisher intends to prolong the Quality Assurance phase to ensure the in-game mechanics are fairly balanced and that new features, such as the ArchePass, are implemented properly. The decision is based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community, which had a strong influence on the development of ArcheAge: Unchained since its announcement.”

Those of you who really don’t want to watch the livestream can just read the cliffnotes here. There are some interesting points such as Gamigo taking a much harder stand on gold buyers as well as mod users in Unchained (which begs the question on why they aren’t taking a stand on the standard servers).

ArcheAge Unchained is a buy to play side-project being launched by Gamigo. It promises to remove the pay to win aspects that are in the live version of ArcheAge and the two games will run side-by-side.

ArcheAge: Unchained Drops On September 30

Gamigo today announced that ArcheAge: Unchained, the rebranding of ArcheAge as a buy to play title, will launch on September 30. The title offers a single purchase price with no shortcuts to power and no subscription. The in-game shop will only sell vanity items and it will not be possible to shortcut your way to power with real money. The shop will sell vanity items and ArcheAge battle passes.

Those looking forward to ArcheAge: Unchained can pre-order the game at the official website. Gamigo is promising that both versions will continue to exist side by side, a promise that will have to be seen given how many times this has been promised with previous launches in the industry. A frequently asked questions can be found here.

[Video] Gamigo Announces ArcheAge Unchained

What happens when you have a game like ArcheAge? Start anew, at least that’s the plan that Gamigo seems to be taking with today’s announcement of ArcheAge: Unchained.

Your feedback over the years encouraged us to provide a different game experience for you, our community. ArcheAge: Unchained is a new way to play the game with a different business model. We’ve changed entirely its monetization which was simply not possible to this great extent with the already existing ArcheAge F2P version.
In ArcheAge: Unchained there is no longer a subscription model. With a onetime purchase, you can enjoy the content as often as you want. You will be able to purchase vanity items via Credits and we will implement seasonal ArchePasses. We are focusing on fairer gameplay which is why we decided to change a few monetization features for ArcheAge: Unchained. There’ll be more information in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!

Gamigo Using Negative ArcheAge Reviews To Tease Something New

Gamigo is doing something strange. If you head over to a teaser website that is inexplicably still using the Trion Worlds domain, you’ll find a countdown leading to roughly Monday 8/19 at about 7:40p.m. EST. Since I’m pretty sure that Gamigo isn’t celebrating the end of my court internship, I’m going to assume it’s something related to their games.

The teaser gets even weirder when you read the scrolling testimonials titled “people used to say.” The players are clearly talking about ArcheAge, but even stranger the feedback in a lot of the commentary isn’t positive. It’s actually pretty negative and has to do with the game’s perception as being pay to win or the struggle to find housing.

“The P2W is strong with this one… Really hard to recommend it with something like that weighting down the whole experience.”

“I played when the game first launched. I ended up quitting after a few months because I was unable to build a house.”

“I played this game for about 2 days but gotannoyed that every thing took labor points.”

So clearly this seems to be leading up to an overhaul of some sort with a focus on pleasing the people who quit because the game was too aggressive with its microtransactions and not user friendly in terms of player housing. MassivelyOP noted that earlier this year it was suggested that a monetization overhaul would be coming to the game at some point. Is this that update?

Only time will tell.

Atlas Reactor No Longer Sustainable, Will Shut Down

Trion World’s title Atlas Reactor will sunset on June 28, 2019. The title was launched in 2016 under Trion Worlds and transferred along with Trion’s other assets to Gamigo when the company suddenly shut down last year.

Mervin Lee Kwai, Vice President of Development at gamigo and a former Executive Producer: “Atlas Reactor was a truly innovative game built by a passionate group of highly skilled developers. I was lucky enough to watch our team breathe life into the world of Atlas on a daily basis. They broke the mold of same-y games, and a dedicated community rallied around the title. Despite the support of this great group of fans, Atlas Reactor never grew big enough to fund its continued development. It’s a shame to see this chapter come to a close, but perhaps we’ll have a chance to revisit the innovative spirit of Atlas in the future.”

As part of the shut down, players who logged in between January 1 and April 16 will receive a small parting gift. The cash shop has been shut down and experience, flux, and ISO rates have been boosted dramatically for the duration of the game’s life.

Rift’s Progression Server Is Dead, Sunsetting At End of Month

Rift’s progression server experiment is coming to a premature end. As posted on the official forums, Rift’s progression server will come down on March 31 with character transfers occurring the following week.

As part of the sunset, all accounts with a level 50 character on Prime will be receive a level 65 character boost pack as well as one million loyalty points. Unfortunately if you’re at capacity for characters on the live servers, you’re going to have to decide who is getting deleted.

The decision may not surprise Rift players, as one can find multiple threads on the main forum discussing low population on the Rift Prime server.
