Pay to Win: The Exiled Has No Time For That

The Exiled is an upcoming MMORPG hitting ground February 23, and the development team over at Fairytale Distillery want you to know that their game has no place for pay to win tactics. For starters, everyone access to a seven day free trial which can be extended indefinitely with a simple one time payment of $19.99 minimum.

Your payment allows you to reserve one character name forever, one character slot per season, a cosmetic title, avatar picture, frame, and background, and unique skins for tier 0 equipment. Higher tiers reward various skins and pets, and even the soundtrack and art book, but you won’t be able to buy in-game power. The top purchase tiers do reward a higher fame gain (unlocking account ranks) and extra daily challenge slots.

Fairytale Distillery’s latest press release also notes that certain regions including Russia and Brazil will have lower local prices.

Evolve Re-Releases As Free To Play Title

ss_60bcdaec92fa46743869e1b33415076a5b5a0b18.1920x1080

Turtle Rock Studios officially announced today that Evolve will re-launch with a free to play model. The announcement comes after the title was mysteriously removed from sale on Steam last night. In addition to removing the entrance fee, players will be able to unlock everything simply by playing the game.

Evolve has been completely overhauled on PC with new game design, gameplay mechanics, and improved gameplay balance and system performance. All of the content in Evolve, including all the content released following its launch, is unlockable in Evolve Stage 2 completely free simply by playing the game.

Evolve Stage 2, as it has been named, will release today in beta mode and likely stay there for a while. While Evolve was critically praised upon release, both the game and Turtle Rock Studios have been heavily criticized over the game’s monetization strategy. Evolve was advertised as being “built from the ground up” for DLC, launching with more than $100 in microtransactions.

Player traffic on PC has plummeted in the year since launch, down to an average of 100 concurrent players. The question of whether the game would go free to play has been in speculation since shortly after launch.

Trove Forces Cash Shop, Trion Worlds “It’s Just Business”

TROVE_ACT_PAX_DungeonBattle_01a

Trion Worlds has announced that upcoming updates to Trove will increase focus on the cash shop and reduce the ability to obtain certain things through gameplay. The announcement focuses on three aspects of Trove life: Cubits, classes, and patron. For starters, users will obtain cubits at a slower initial pace, with prices on the store going up and repeatable items heading into the store at some point. In addition, it will no longer be possible to buy classes with cubits.

Patron is Trove’s subscription program. To better advertise the feature going forward, players will begin seeing more promotions on the HUD and in the store,

We want to align the business of Trove with the game of Trove as much as possible. Some of you guys here on the forums even called us out this month on how our focus seemed to be trending towards the Chaos Chest rewards and not gameplay focused rewards. That’s a case where the balance has been getting away from us, and we want to make sure we are doing the most we can to both support Trove as a game and a business in a way that is aligned, not at odds.

The post also mentions requiring patron in order to access certain features. What those features are is unknown, Trion does not go into further detail. Later on in the same thread, it is revealed that those details have not been finalized.

Right now we’re looking for the right balance, once we have a final plan for exactly what Patron will unlock I’ll be sure to post it. While we work on that I wanted to get you guys advanced word that it was something we are planning.
