This week’s DarkScape update is being dubbed “experimental,” in that it introduces a few new features to combat griefing through combat and in summoning shops. First of all, dying in RuneScape with the protect item prayer now results in a cooldown period where the prayer cannot be used. For skulled players (those who have recently attacked someone), the cooldown is five minutes. For non-skulled players, the cooldown is one minute.
Secondly, summoning shops have been reverted back to personal stock. A previous update had made shop inventories shared across all players, resulting in the stock of summoning shards (required for the summoning skill and virtually unobtainable elsewhere) being at or near zero across the game’s servers. The personal stock has also returned for waterskins.

Xsyon players will be happy to know that no longer will they need to eat their fish raw. Notorious Games has announced the release of two of Xsyon’s most anticipated features: Cooking and farming. With farming, players will be able to plant their own farms and grow crops, crops that will need to be tended to in order to avoid pests, dehydration, and weeds. The produce from farming, as well as other areas of the game, can be used towards the newly released cooking skill. With cooking, players are able to combine ingredients of various properties to create dishes that provide buffs.
As part of the cooking skill, players will need to take care of where they let their food sit. Dishes and ingredients that are not properly stored will rot, and must be stored in special baskets or in tribe commissaries. You can read more about the update on the official patch notes.

If the title has you scratching your head, you aren’t alone. Generally whenever we hear about an MMO changing the manner in which its free players enjoy the game, it is to open up more content or to allow accessibility into more features. Very rarely do we see the pay wall be pushed backward rather than forward. That being said, KingsIsle Entertainment has published the most recent patch notes to the test server, which will reduce the amount of content players can access before they are asked to fork over.
New players will encounter Premium Areas earlier than previously. However, both of the following new Premium Areas will be given to all accounts that have existing characters created before these updates are released to the live game:
Prologue: Part 1—the first Premium Area will be encountered during the Quest “A Good Ship?” after talking to Dockmaster Dan.
Prologue: Part 2—the second Premium Area will be encountered during the Quest “To Jonah Town” just before players dock to Jonah Town.
