RuneMetrics: What You Need To Know
Last month marked the announcement of RuneMetrics, an upcoming stat-tracking tool for RuneScape developed by Jagex. At the time, all we knew is that the tracker would allow players to see certain statistics like experience per hour and logged drops, and that there would be a free and a paid version.
There’s advanced XP tracking including an ETA to your next level up. There is also an amazing drop log that tracks everything you’ve gained through combat, as well as damage calculators giving you your total damage EVER and your average damage per minute, and plenty more on top!
In a developer Q&A posted today, the team answered a number of questions regarding how RuneMetrics will work and why it costs money. You can find the entire 20 minute video below but for brevity we have posted the highlights below.
Check out below for the full Q&A as well as some screenshots from the livestream.
- There is an in-game tracker and a website tracker.
- The in-game tracker follows xp per hour, time to next level, exp gained.
- Real time graphs follow the past few minutes.
- The web application goes further back in time and will replace the Adventurer’s Log.
- Everything that is available in the Adventurer’s log will be free in RuneMetrics.
- Everything is tracked and can be viewed (kills, drops, worlds changed, deaths, etc).
- The feature will not “cheat” for you (ie: clue scroll answers, farming patch status, etc).
- The free version covers counting based functions while RuneMetrics Pro (paid) will be required for calculation-based functions.
- RuneMetrics requires a subscription due to the immense storage and maintenance costs.
- There are no plans for a permanent buy.
- If your subscription lapses, after a while the data will be deleted.
- Premiere Club members get two weeks free plus half off on the cost.
The web portion will look similar to how it is below. The top portion is available for free with the bottom half requiring a monthly subscription.

Live Stream Q&A With R.A. Salvatore On 9/22
Perfect World Entertainment has announced that this Tuesday, players will have the opportunity to question R.A. Salvatore himself. Salvatore is the New York Times bestselling author known for his Dungeons & Dragons novels, including the character Drizzt Do’Urden. The upcoming expansion for Neverwinter, Underdark, features Salvatore’s character quite extensively.
As we know, many of our adventurers have traveled across an eternity of campaigns in D&D, so our live stream will be a Q&A session for and by the community. We’ve heard many a tale of how Salvatore’s stories have inspired or changed your lives, which makes us all the more excited to host this stream. This is your chance to not only ask any questions you may have about his novels, characters or writing process, but also a chance to show him how far his influence has reached.
Players are encouraged to leave their questions and comments in the official forums, which will be answered in the live stream on Tuesday.

Defiance Q&A Addresses PC/Console Performance Issues
Trion Worlds has published the latest Q&A for Defiance, addressing crossover content, Midsummer Mutiny, performance issues, and Warmaster instances.
On Midsummer Mutiny, Defiance’s summer event, complaints have arisen over players being clustered together during holiday events leading to performance issues on lower end machines, issues that have become more prominent since the game went free to play. Trion’s answer is that future content will put heavier reliance on instances for the boss battles, splitting up players into more manageable groups.
Trion is also aware of increasing performance issues on the PC and console versions and has a fix coming in the next patch that will hopefully fix said issues. You can read the rest of the Q&A at the link below, detailing instancing, further content, and more.

Ben Lesnick Addresses Recent Criticisms Of Star Citizen
Ben Lesnick (not Chris Roberts) of Cloud Imperium Games has posted a very long and detailed Q&A session on the official Star Citizen forums in an effort to improve communication and dispel recent criticism. The response is at least partially due to the wide coverage last week of a heavily critical piece posted by Derek Smart, in which the veteran developer stated that Star Citizen “as has been pitched, will never get made. Ever.”
The post is long and covers a wide array of topics including the delay of Star Marine, the first person shooter module, as well as allegations of wasted time/money, long delays on features, and lack of communication with the community.
“I will continue to push my folks to their limits to communicate with you and we will always try to improve… but if you’re someone who honestly believes development is behind an impassable wall, you’re incorrect. Between AtV, RtV, the monthly report, weekly Star Marine reports, Jump Point articles, Meet the Devs, Bug Smashers, 10 for… we’re putting an insane amount of content out there. And we’ll keep doing more, to the best of our abilities!”
If you have some time, head on over to the forums (link below) and give the Q&A a read.

Trion Worlds Promises Defiance Announcement At Gamescom
Last week we reported that Trion Worlds had opened a thread on the Defiance official forums, requesting that people submit questions for an upcoming Q&A session. The results of the Q&A are available for viewing on the official website, nine questions and nine answers. When questioned on a roadmap for future content updates, Trion answered that more details will be released at Gamescom and PAX.
- Right now, we are working on some non-expedition content for upcoming updates. We can’t say much, but we do plan on releasing more info at Gamescom and PAX Prime. You get a hint about what is happening with Dark Matter in the latest Arkbreak Expedition.
You can read the rest of the Q&A at the link below. Gamescom and PAX Prime take place in August.

Defiance Opens Floor To Community Questions
Trion Worlds is opening up its forums to another Q&A with the Defiance development team. If you have any questions/concerns to push on the team, now is your chance to do it.
This is the question collection thread for this week’s Defiance Developer Q&A. If you’d like to add your question in or you have any concerns, this is your thread! Questions will be drawn later today and the thread will be closed after the questions have been drawn to prevent confusion.
As usual, MMO Fallout will be covering the answers in the Defiance Q&A.

[Community] Trion Worlds Question & Non-Answer Session
Developer Q&A’s are a great representation of why you should never allow an interview subject to cherry pick their own questions. With the exception of an exceptionally newsworthy answer, I’ve stopped covering developer Q&A’s here at MMO Fallout for a few reasons, not least of which being that they have a habit of wasting everyone’s time and in many cases don’t actually answer any of the questions they are asked.
I harped on this back when Jagex would do Q&A sessions with their community, because they would ignore hard questions in favor of filling up the transcript with things that they knowingly couldn’t answer, with at least half of the answers being “I can’t answer this,” “this isn’t my department,” or “this isn’t what we’re talking about today.” The thinly veiled attempt at dodging questions under the guise of transparency is obvious to anyone paying the slightest amount of attention, and in the end it wastes time and likely causes more PR damage than actually answering the questions to begin with.
Trion Worlds recently put out a Q&A for Defiance, and in a fashion that I have heavily criticized in the past, managed to not answer just about any of their hand picked questions. Out of eleven questions in the latest Q&A, two fall into the “we are looking into it,” seven into the “we might in the future, maybe,” with one definitive no and one definitive yes. Eleven questions, all hand picked by a Trion employee, and only two answers provide concrete information.
There are two parts to a Question & Answer, the questions and the answers.
RuneScape VIP Q&A Highlights
Jagex recently conducted a question and answer session with the VIP members (people who purchased the premiere club membership this year), and if you aren’t a member you can’t access the forums. The list is massive, so instead of reproducing the Q&A 1:1 and likely crashing this website, I’ve decided to consolidate the answers into an easily digestible list.
If you don’t play RuneScape, many of these answers will mean nothing to you. You can read the Q&A in its entirety at the Tip.It forums.
