MU Legend Hits Open Beta, Soft Launches on PC

Webzen’s latest title MU Legend today launched into open beta, a soft launch of sorts where player data will be retained into the full launch later on. MU Legend is an ARPG and follow up to MU Online. Players are able to choose from four classes to fight the legion of Pandemonium.

Dennis Czybulka, COO at Webzen Dublin, acknowledged the occasion with these words: “Launching a game is always a high-stakes moment to live through, where hundreds of emotions collide. Here, in the ‘OBT backstage’, I am witnessing – let me put it like this – ‘an exotic diversity of exhilarated states of mind ‘: The chills of enthusiasm are making hairs stand on end, adding a frenetic edge to the usual finger-tapping rhythm – still not missing a beat – and hearts are hammering faster than usual. Now, the fun starts for the fans, and our attention is focused entirely on making their game experience the most unforgettable yet. We’re excited for players to experience first-hand the passion that we’ve put into MU Legend and look forward to seeing them all in-game.”

All game content for launch is available today with more content coming further down the line. Players who participated in the previous beta tests will receive a bonus to be distributed on November 14.

PSA: Get 1 Year PS+ For $40 (Normally $60) On Amazon, Gamestop

Our more money savvy viewers are likely already taking part in this plan, but one of the better ways to top up your Playstation Plus or Xbox Live each year is to buy the cards on Black Friday or around Christmas, two of the very few times that the cards actually go on sale. It looks like Amazon and Gamestop are getting in on the action early, because both companies have the one year Plus codes on sale right now.

The offer on Amazon is in the form of a digital code that is immediately delivered to your digital library, as is Gamestop. If you prefer to head over to the physical Gamestop location and pay cash, you should be aware that the code only applies to digital codes purchased at the register and printed on the receipt and not the physical cards that are on display next to the Red Lobster gift cards on the sales floor.

This sale is brief, and only appears to extend until Tuesday November 7. While the cards will definitely go on sale for Black Friday, there is no guarantee on what that sale price will be. Playstation Network cards are country locked, so if you’re outside of the United States we would recommend against purchasing.

Perfect World Entertainment Has Laid Off Gigantic Developer Motiga

Motiga founder and CEO Chris Chung has stated to Destructoid that all of the staff minus a maintenance team has been let go at Motiga, developer of Gigantic. This wouldn’t be the first mass-layoff at Motiga, the developer has undergone such a restructuring more than once thanks to the troubled development and rather low reception of their MOBA-esque title Gigantic. When Microsoft pulled out its support of the developer, Perfect World Entertainment stepped in as publisher.

In his statement to Destructoid, Chung states that the layoffs were a cost cutting move as Gigantic just wasn’t making enough revenue, and that the game will be put in the hands of a skeleton crew.

Gigantic will be left at the hands of a maintenance team composed of few dedicated folks at Motiga. They are [an] awesome group of people that will be working on the game until some time in the future when it doesn’t make sense anymore.

At this point it looks like Gigantic’s days are numbered, the question is just how long.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds Not Socialist Enough For China, Faces Ban

The Chinese government envisions a perfect world where ammunition is distributed equally among the masses and everyone is equal, except those that are more equal. Since Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is more of a meritocracy of sorts, one where skill, intuition, and a bit of luck will net you the famed chicken dinner, naturally the game must be banned.

A statement released by the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association this week has compared PUBG’s gameplay to Roman gladiatorial combat, noting that “the concept of survival set off a serious deviation from our socialist core values ??and the traditional Chinese culture and ethical norms” that is “not Conducive to the physical and mental health of young consumers.” As a result, the game has been recommended to be rejected for a distribution license, meaning that Chinese players will have to download and play from slow, foreign servers.

While PUBG may not be officially banned, as in the government makes it illegal to own, for now players will have to rely on VPNs in order to play, which are regularly blocked, effectively reducing access to the title. As a large portion of PUBG’s player base comes from China, losing that market would put a huge dent in what would still be a top selling title.
