Marvel Heroes Patch Introduces Major Bugs, Emergency Maintenance Coming

MarvelHeroes2015 2015-07-16 22-10-10-06

Gazillion Entertainment launched the latest patch for Marvel Heroes, leaving a lot of broken pieces in its wake. Players are reporting latency issues, poor performance in certain areas, and an inability to get into the game at all. To top things off, some (including yours truly) are experiencing disconnections with the error “error saving characters, please contact support,” kicking them off of the server and losing approximately ten minutes of progression in the process.

There are a metric ton of errors being reported across the game and cash shop as part of the patch, and the general consensus among many is to just leave the game alone until Gazillion has a chance to fix it. Luckily, an emergency patch is set to go live in a few hours, at 10pm Pacific (1am Eastern).

We’re currently planning for the emergency patch to fix this issue and a few others for 10PM PDT tonight. Will keep you updated once I know for sure with an officiall announcement.

For those of you who were looking to get your Marvel Heroes fill tonight, well you can always brave it out and hope you don’t get hit by the ‘error saving characters’ bug. Just be aware that if you open up lockboxes and you get disconnected losing your progress, you’ll have to re-open them.

Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade Moves To Unreal 4 Engine

W40KEC_20150701_02

Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade is speeding along in development, a process which should be faster thanks to a recent port to the latest Unreal Engine. Eternal Crusade will mark the first game developed by Behaviour Interactive using the engine.

“After evaluating our engine options we decided that Unreal Engine 4 and the team at Epic offered the type of support and the best toolset to make the Warhammer world come to life,” said Rémi Racine, Founder and CEO of Behaviour Interactive. “The sheer amount of productivity tools we get right out of the box have helped the game’s development progress significantly faster, allowing the team to ensure the highest quality at a rate we couldn’t have achieved before.”

More information on Eternal Crusade can be found through the official website.

facebook_NewCostume_AntMan_Movie

Ahead of his debut in theaters, Marvel Heroes players can now acquire Scott Lang donning the Ant-Man suit to bust up villains. Gamers who pre-ordered Ant-Man received his default costume as well as one inspired by the upcoming film.

Though a brilliant electronics expert, Scott Lang had made his share of bad decisions. Having served time in prison for burglary, Scott would return to his life of crime in order to save his terminally ill daughter, Cassie. Stealing the Ant-Man suit from Hank Pym, Scott would use the suit to save Dr. Erica Sondheim, the only doctor capable of saving Cassie from her heart condition. Once he realized that Scott was only trying to do the right thing, Hank Pym not only let Scott keep the suit, but gave him his blessing as the brand new Ant-Man!

Check out Ant-Man’s release trailer below.

CIG Might Refund $2.1 Million Kickstarters, Derek Smart Promises Lawsuit

181508-244876-dereksmartjpg-620x

Cloud Imperium Games publicly announced that they refunded Derek Smart’s Kickstarter pledge and disabled his account may strike as odd, given they accused him of using the game to push his own MMO, and even odder if you consider that Smart allegedly has never posted on their forum. On his Twitter account, Smart reacted to the public statement by CIG with one of his own: Make a public apology or face a defamation lawsuit.

My attorneys are sending a strongly worded letter demanding a PUBLIC apology. If I don’t get it, I WILL take legal action.

In addition to the lawsuit, Smart also mused on the idea that CIG might refund all Kickstarter backers, presumably in response to comments about involvement by the Federal Trade Commission who recently opened up a division to handle crowdfunding.

I think I know what they’re trying to do. As I said in article KS & RSI pledges r diff. Looks like they r ready to refund $2.1 KS backers. IF they refund $2.1 in KS backers, the rest who bought directly from RSI website, are screwed by the TOS. Unless they sue or FTC steps in.

CIG has not yet responded to these new allegations.

John Smedley Quits Twitter After Argument Leads to DDOS, Threats

smedley

John Smedley has quit Twitter, an announcement that will have a good portion of Daybreak’s communities giving a sigh of relief. Responding to a thread on Reddit over his account suddenly going dark, Smedley confirmed that he is walking away from the social media platform.

I really love making games. It makes me happy. I saw Twitter as a great way to talk 1-1 with players which I love doing. I’m simply not going to let this make me lose focus….but I am going to walk away from Twitter and not miss it for a second. Life’s too short to let things distract me from what I really like doing. I will miss the interaction with our players though. A great deal.

Whether he left voluntarily or was pressured from within Daybreak, Smedley’s exist is likely due to a rather high profile event last week where Smedley called out a couple of members of Lizard Squad. The hacker group responded with a series of attacks on Daybreak’s servers, which escalated to doxxing threats against Daybreak employees.

Neverwinter Strongholds Release August 11th

bdc58a92a01aab7dd6393ae1e0f45e691436282669

Perfect World Entertainment has announced that the Strongholds expansion for Neverwinter will be ready and raring to go on August 11th. In addition to the largest playable map introduced so far, Strongholds will also allow guilds to form up and take back the wilderness to make it a safe place once again. The initial launch will focus on the player vs environment portion, allowing guilds to build their strongholds.

Reminiscent of early Dungeons & Dragons gameplay, Neverwinter: Strongholds empowers guilds to reclaim a keep and its surrounding wilderness areas from monsters. As the lands are cleared, guilds will need to decide how to properly run their stronghold and which of the many paths it can take to fit the guild’s needs.

Later in September, players will be able to participate in PvP action on the map.

Derek Smart Used Star Citizen “To Promote His Line of Defense Game,” Smart Refunded & Banned

181508-244876-dereksmartjpg-620x

In what might be the first case of public corporate banning, CIG’s Ben Lesnick has posted a message on the official forums announcing that they have refunded Derek Smart’s Kickstarter pledge and disabled his account, effectively telling the veteran developer that he is no longer welcome as part of the community. In a thread discussing the refund on the main forums, a poll has gathered close to 30% support for the option to refund one’s pledge.

Our ToS (or in this case, the Kickstarter ToS) allows us to refund troubled users who we would rather not have interacting with the community. The process lets us entirely disable their accounts, preventing them from playing the finished game. Think of it as the video game equivalent of a ‘we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone’ sign in a restaurant. We’ve used this ability a limited number of times in the past, always with the aim of improving the community.

The action was spurred when Smart first posted his belief that Star Citizen will never be released, as it was promised, leading up to his latest blog post asking for an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission as well as offering a list of demands. CIG accused Smart of using Star Citizen as a platform to promote his own game, Line of Defense.

[Less Massive] Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Has Passed Away

gamiwataface530

Nintendo of Japan has announced with heavy heart that President Satoru Iwata has passed away today at the age of 55. Iwata has been with Nintendo since the early days of the Famicom, moving up to the position of director in 2000 and president in 2002, before becoming CEO in 2013. Unfortunately Iwata fell ill with a bile duct growth, forcing him to miss last year’s E3.

The announcement posted by Nintendo of Japan:

Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.

Satoru Iwata will be missed. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and coworkers.

Ben Lesnick Addresses Recent Criticisms Of Star Citizen

wc_hangar_hornet_blastoff000081

Ben Lesnick (not Chris Roberts) of Cloud Imperium Games has posted a very long and detailed Q&A session on the official Star Citizen forums in an effort to improve communication and dispel recent criticism. The response is at least partially due to the wide coverage last week of a heavily critical piece posted by Derek Smart, in which the veteran developer stated that Star Citizen “as has been pitched, will never get made. Ever.”

The post is long and covers a wide array of topics including the delay of Star Marine, the first person shooter module, as well as allegations of wasted time/money, long delays on features, and lack of communication with the community.

“I will continue to push my folks to their limits to communicate with you and we will always try to improve… but if you’re someone who honestly believes development is behind an impassable wall, you’re incorrect. Between AtV, RtV, the monthly report, weekly Star Marine reports, Jump Point articles, Meet the Devs, Bug Smashers, 10 for… we’re putting an insane amount of content out there. And we’ll keep doing more, to the best of our abilities!”

If you have some time, head on over to the forums (link below) and give the Q&A a read.
