MMOrning Shots: Blooming Good Fun

Screen Shot 2013-10-08 at 7.18.32 PM

Today’s MMOrning Shots comes to us from the upcoming JJ Abrams Star Wars film: Star Wars Episode VII: The Lens Flare Strikes Back. In reality, it is a screenshot from Bioware’s upcoming expansion to Star Wars: The Old Republic, also known as Galactic Starfighter. Releasing this winter, Galactic Starfighter is a digital expansion focusing solely on getting space flight off of its rails. This also means that there will be no new planets, no increase to the level cap, no new story missions, no new PvE content. The digital expansion will be solely focused on PvP.

On the other hand, the expansion will be available for free. Subscribers will receive access on December 3rd, 2013 with preferred members joining them on January 14, 2014, with free players tailing behind on February 4th. If all goes well, hopefully this will lead to PvE space missions ditching their rails as well. You can check out the expansion website here.

MMOrning Shots: Deep Thoughts

ffxiv_09302013_094604

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I’m not sure if the guy staring off into space is deep in thought, contemplating the vast unexplored wilderness that is the universe. Either that, or he thinks I am a bot and is in the middle of reporting my character to customer service. I suppose that isn’t as deep.

MMOrning Shots: Here Sheepy

dp_x64 2013-09-27 00-20-48-22

I’m in the middle of taking a look at Dragon’s Prophet, and I want to impart a lesson upon Runewaker: First impressions are everything, and that means making sure your opening quests actually work. There is a particularly annoying quest at level five where you have to let this woman spray you with a vanilla mist in order to entice the sheep into following you back to the pen. Problem: Only one of the sheep actually works. The others just ignore you no matter how much you run around them, there is no button to press that will force them to follow you, and you only have 60 seconds until the spray runs out and you have to go back and get another. So what should have been an easy quest turned into fifteen minutes of finding the one sheep that would respond, bringing it back to the pen, waiting for it to respawn, getting sprayed, and repeating.

On the plus side, I won’t need sleeping pills when I go to bed tonight, since I’ve been counting sheep.

MMOrning Shots: Twilight Assault

GW2_2013-09_Twilight_Assault_Holo_Aetherblade

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes to us from Arenanet, and offers a glimpse at the upcoming Twilight Assault update set for October 1st. Twilight Assault, which I originally assumed would involve raiding a Barnes and Noble and burning some Stephanie Meyer books, actually involves players assisting in the raid of a secret facility. A secret facility for what, exactly? For the printing of Stephanie Meyer books.

MMOrning Shots: Your FATE Is Sealed

ffxiv_08262013_105131

In Final Fantasy XIV, the FATE system is a series of short events that pop up all over the world. Sometimes you might be tasked with defeating an insane band of fungus creatures, sometimes you have to drive back an invasion of bandits, and sometimes you just have to beat the tar out of a new recruit. Life is interesting like that.

MMOrning Shots: Son of a Trigon

Today’s screenshot comes to us from Sony Online Entertainment, on DC Universe’s upcoming DLC release: Sons of Trigon. Releasing later this fall, Sons of Trigon marks the eighth DLC expansion to the super hero/villain MMO since release, as well as the 11th power: Celestial. Players will take on Trigon alongside either Wonder Woman or Circe, in a battle for either power or peace.

Sons of Trigon DLC picks up where the Sins of the Father storyline left off. Through blood ritual, Trigon escaped his dimension and was preparing to attack the Earth. However, he became trapped in a nightmare version of Gotham City, a wasteland filled with sin. In this new DLC, Heroes and Villains will explore these wastelands as they race to confront Trigon and his sinful sons.

MMOrning Shots: Dragon Prophet

DragonsProphet_20130716_113120

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes from Sony Online Entertainment and Dragon’s Prophet. If you didn’t see it in the screenshot, this is an exact recreation of the village that I grew up in back in the old country, until I out-leveled the area and moved into a place with electricity and a working sanitation system. Dragon’s Prophet releases September 18th, but you can check out the open beta going on right now.

MMOrning Shots: My Nose Itches!

Kerran_warrior_roars_in_Ashfang

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes to us from Sony Online Entertainment with Everquest Next. With the voxel engine making everything destructible, naturally that Kerran should be able to chop those flowers down, throw them in a nice ceramic vase, and then throw the vase over the side of that cliff and watch it smash against the ground. Right? I consider myself to be a rather sensible gamer, but if Everquest Next doesn’t contain the flower pot cliff smashing, you can count me out as a buyer.

Oh, it’s free to play? That’s preposterous, I still won’t pay it.

MMOrning Shots: Wildstar Edition

WS_2013-07_Chua_and_Mordesh_02

Today’s MMOrning Shot comes from Wildstar, in development by Carbine Studios and published by NCSoft. The Chua, pictured above, are a hamster-like race with an “uncanny grasp of science and mechanical engineering.” In the world of Wildstar, the Chua were given the means to forward their industrial exercises and promptly destroyed the environment in their psychotic need for advancement. With their own world now devoid of resources, the Chua look toward the Nexus as a haven of exploitable land, ripe for the picking.

Wildstar is set for release later this year.

MMOrning Shots: Irathi Plague

mmorning

There is a sickness going around Defiance, and I’m not even talking about the Hellbug menace. Trion has launched a mini-event in Defiance that has players finding data recorders detailing a new Irathi-born disease that has spread to humans. The event is small, has no indication on when it will end, and may spiral into a larger story related to an upcoming episode of Defiance on Syfy or possibly just fizzle out and become nothing. Who knows? I certainly don’t. All I know is that I won’t be eating my pirogi in Shondu’s Consolate for a while.

MMOrning Shots is a (mostly) daily line of screenshots from various MMOs. Most are taken in-house or come to us in press releases, but if you would like your screenshot featured, send it over to contact[at]mmofallout[dot]com with the subject “MMorning Shots.”
