Surprise! APB Reloaded Soft Launches On Xbox One

apb

It’s been a while since Reloaded Productions first announced that APB Reloaded would be hitting consoles, so it came as a bit of a surprise when the announcement dropped last night that the game was now live. European Xbox One users can access a soft launch of the MMO while players in the US will have to wait a while longer.

The soft launch is being treated as more of a beta test than a live product, with users reporting major issues on the game’s forums. Cash shop purchases have also been disabled for the time being.

APB Reloaded Compensating For Downtime

apb

If you hadn’t noticed, DDOS attacks have become common enough that nowadays they’re just a regular thing that happens every so often. Pick any major game service, be it Xbox Live, PSN, RuneScape, World of Warcraft, etc, and odds are it has experienced service disruption in recent months due to these attacks.

In the case of APB Reloaded, Reloaded Productions has thanked its community for bearing with them over the course of recent attacks. As compensation, any player who has logged in between June 26th and today (September 10th) will receive two free inventory expansion selectors.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve seen DDOS attacks on the rise again for APB as well as other games.  While we’re working with our Mitigation provider to combat these new types of attacks, we know that it’s an unpleasant experience for our players.  As a small token of appreciation, we’ve delivered 2 codes for Inventory Expansion Selectors, this is for all players that have logged into a district from June 26th to today, and is good until September 22, 2015.

APB Reloaded Server Merge And New Engine

social1

APB Reloaded is on track and ready for the North American server merge this Tuesday, June 2nd. The recent merger of APB’s European server into Citadel saw increased activity from new and returning players, and Reloaded Productions is hoping that the same will hold true for the North American server.

In other news, work continues on the upgraded Unreal engine for APB, as seen in the screenshot above. When the new engine launches, APB will require a 64-bit operating system in order to continue playing, leaving a small portion of the community in the dust.

Making the game 64-bit only solves several long-standing memory management and performance issues that we are happy to finally put behind us. But it does mean that a small percentage of machines currently used to play APB will need a new OS in order to continue playing.

You can find out more at the official website.

APB Servers To Begin Merger

apb

APB: Reloaded will be merging its five servers into three over the next month or so in order to bring players closer together. On April 22nd, the two EU servers will be merged into one with the US servers merging into their own on May 6th. The third server Han, which runs for the Asian region, won’t see any change.

Character name priority will be given based on account age, playtime, and last login. The console (PS4/XOne) servers will run from the same locations as the PC servers.

All Points Bulletin Coming To Consoles

apb

This console generation is a good time to play your favorite MMOs on the couch, or at least it will be over the next year or so. Already host to the likes of DC Universe Online and Final Fantasy XIV, we still have Planetside 2, Everquest Next, Warframe, Neverwinter, and SMITE coming to one or both consoles at some point in the future. Reloaded Productions is the latest title to jump on board the console wagon with the announcement that APB: Reloaded will be hitting Xbox One and Playstation 4 next year.

Reloaded Productions would like to allow players to transfer characters, but is meeting heavy resistance on the idea by Sony and Microsoft.

APB Reloaded Names and Shames Cheaters

apb

I’ve always taken the stance of wondering how you shame someone who is shameless, but that’s just me. In a new blog post by Reloaded Productions, the number of cheaters in All Points Bulletin has stayed relatively consistent, around 1% of the total game’s population. Thanks to the FairFight anti-cheat engine employed in the game, over two hundred of these players have been banned but not before spending a copious amount of real money on in-game swag. Even more surprising, cheaters are excellent customers. 60% of the cheaters were paid characters, and boy did they pay well.

Another startling fact; paid players who were banned had on average 260 hours of play time in the game, had played for over 1 year, and had on average spent $180 on virtual goods.

The team at Reloaded Productions is tossing around the idea of a purgatory area where cheaters are thrown in where they can continue playing and, preferably, spending more money.

The idea is that cheaters don’t get banned right away (which of course doesn’t happen since the system runs on various delays), and instead freshly detected cheaters get kicked into special cheaters-only districts, where they can continue playing against other cheaters without initially realizing they have been tagged (or whole groups get thrown in there as long as they have a cheater on their team).

As long as the cheaters keep paying real money, they can spend as much time in purgatory as they want.

APB Reloaded Upgrading To Unreal 3

apb

The folks at Reloaded Productions have put out a new dev blog highlighting upcoming changes to APB: Reloaded’s engine. As some of you may know, All Points Bulletin is set to receive an upgrade to the latest version of the Unreal Engine 3, or the 2013 build to put it in another perspective. Updating to the latest version of UE3 means taking advantage of all of the improvements made over the past six years. The team is looking at getting the update out “as-is,” meaning players won’t be seeing any graphical improvements to the game at first. Over the longer run, however, APB should be capable of visual enhancements as well as a number of new features previously impossible.

APB Reloaded Transfers Weapons Via Murder

apb

Not too long ago, Reloaded Productions introduced a new weapon to APB: The Colby .45. What is unique about this pistol is that you can only obtain it if someone kills you with it. Afterward, everyone you kill with it will also find the pistol sitting in their inventory. While the epidemic event has ended and players may now obtain the Colby via ARMAS and Joker shops, Reloaded isn’t done with the concept. To expand upon the idea of transferring weapons via infection, Reloaded Productions has introduced the Agrotech Close Engagement System (or ACES).

Achieving 26 kills with the Colby will reward the player with a 10-Day ACES SMG, a short range and fast firing weapon with low damage and a large magazine. Ten kills with the SMG will reward a title, and fifty kills will reward a 10-Day ACES Rifle.

APB Reloaded Unleashes Chaos Mode

Splash - No Text

Chaos has descended upon San Paro! Reloaded Productions has launched the prototype of Chaos Mode, a new game mode for APB: Reloaded that pits law vs chaos in a battle to the death. Currently in testing from May 30th through June 6th, Chaos Mode does not contain the contacts that you are generally used to receiving missions from. Rather, these contacts have been replaced by vendors who will be selling new tools of destruction, and players on both sides are given free reign to take to the streets and kill each other in the name of law, justice, or poops and giggles.

Players are scored based on kills and how long they manage to stay alive in this hellhole, with prizes ranging from temporary weapons and titles given to those who manage certain feats during the week-long testing. Just remember: This is a test of a possible new feature, so Reloaded Productions is looking for feedback from players on how to move the mode forward.
