Daybreak Alters Planetside Arena Launch Plans, Hitting Playstation 4

Daybreak’s upcoming spinoff Planetside Arena is changing course. Somewhat.

In an announcement posted on the official website this week, Daybreak thanked its closed beta testers for their invaluable feedback, and announced that after much consideration the PC-only release will be postponed. The good news is that this delay is to make way for the Playstation 4 version which will launch alongside the PC version this summer. Unfortunately this does mean that the founders beta will be cancelled and all buyers of Planetside Arena on Steam are being refunded their purchases.

The beta program will be extended ahead of launch later this year.

[Not Massive] Gamestop Hyperkin Controllers Get Stuck In Customs

Hyperkin’s Duke Xbox controller is fat and sassy. How fat is it, you ask? It’s so fat that it tried to slide through customs and got stuck. Tip your waiter, I’ll be here all week.

This week was supposed to mark the launch of the Hyperkin Duke Xbox Controller, a recreation of the original Xbox controller for people with Shaq-sized hands. If you pre-ordered your controller through Microsoft, you’re doing fine. If you got your order through Gamestop, however, you might have been surprised to show up on Monday only for the store to tell you that not only was the controller not in yet, it wasn’t even in transit to the store.

Well it turns out that Gamestop’s shipment got held up by Customs. Hyperkin’s Twitter account set a new date of May 15 for delivery.

LOTRO Delays Mordor Expansion

As it turns out, one does not simply launch Mordor. To the surprise of very few, judging by the reaction on the Lord of the Rings Online forums, the announcement came yesterday that the Mordor expansion has been delayed due to a bug that could not be fixed prior to today’s planned launch. As a result, the release has been adjusted to an as of yet unknown future date.

We are as excited as many of you to get into Mordor, but we have some unfortunate news: we have to adjust the release date. While preparing over the weekend to release the expansion on Monday, we discovered an issue in the build that impacted the ability of monsters and NPCs to move around correctly. This problem was specifically identified in older content. While correcting this issue is not a problem, the process to correct it takes too long to be able to release Mordor on Monday. So, we have to adjust the release date. We will have more info on the release date soon. We will know a lot more in the next 24 hours or so, and will pass along the info as soon as we can.

According to the Standing Stone website, any delays in the launch of Mordor will not extend past August 31st.

Indie MMO Revival Ends Development

Stage1-238d6fb0fac76d4d0405c37a76293302

Indie sandbox MMO Revival has announced that development has ceased due to lack of funds.

Starting in the very new future, you will find that homes are no longer for sale through the Dunwich and Innsmouth section of our website and future patches to the client are, at least as of now, highly unlikely. I will never give up on Revival, and I know I’m not alone, but we just don’t have the resources at our disposal that we need, and the sacrifices necessary to acquire them don’t make much sense given our goal, here.

When we first set out to build Revival, we had access to expertise and resources that aren’t available today. Making up for their loss, be it as simple as lacking sufficient animators or as complicated as losing access to certain networking expertise, has been a costly affair, far more costly than we can honestly afford to bear. So, what does that mean? Is Revival completely dead?

Not particularly, no, just delayed indefinitely. Founders will still have access to their renovation kits, their properties, etc, with no intention of shutting those down for the foreseeable future. In addition, it looks like development will still continue on Revival in some fashion, even if it is unpaid and slow. Founders will also receive Steam keys for two other games, Nexuiz and Moving Hazards.

Pathfinder Online Delays Early Enrollment

QuietChainShirtConcept

Goblinworks has announced that Pathfinder Online’s open enrollment period will be rescheduled to give their developers more time to implement more features that the community has requested be made available at the start of open enrollment.

There are a lot of final pieces coming into place to turn Pathfinder Online into a Minimum Viable Product so all of our early adopters can play and have a great time. The Auction House didn’t make it in for a build last week and that is a critical feature of our MVP. As always, Goblinworks is dedicated to making sure the players have a solid and fun game experience.

This is the third time that Goblinworks has delayed open enrollment for Pathfinder Online. Open enrollment currently costs $100 for access beginning in September (estimated), $50 in October (estimated), with players expected to pay a monthly subscription during open enrollment.
