Both Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online are entering their third day of maintenance as maintenance on both game’s data centers has hit a bit of a snafu. Both games were taken down for maintenance on March 6, however it became apparent during that maintenance that there were more issues than expected. The completion time has now been extended from its initial 22 hours into its third day.
As posted on Twitter, the current estimated completion time is 2:00 p.m. on Friday March 8.
Downtime Extension: 2:00 PM Eastern Friday, March 8th
The LOTRO game worlds will remain offline for work at our data center through 2:00 PM Eastern on Friday, March 8th. We will have more information tomorrow morning. Thank you for your continued patience. #LOTRO

Black Friday is upon us, and that means deals on everything! For Daybreak Game Company customers, there is a good week’s worth of deals on every game in Daybreak’s library.
Check the list below to see what’s on sale for your preferred title.
Standing Stone Games Executive Producer Severlin posted a short announcement on the Lord of the Rings Online forums this week detailing the company’s plans for the title going forward into the rest of 2018 and beyond. The post talks about changes to classes, festivals, and more, including the coming update that will take adventurers to the Lonely Mountain and also increase the level cap to 120.
Let’s look ahead to Update 23! We will be journeying to the Lonely Mountain, and from there following the eastern paths to the Iron Hills, and north to the Grey Mountains. We’re excited to put these important parts of Dwarf culture and history on the map. Update 23 will also come with an instance cluster and, later in the year, a new raid. Our new instances will be designed for both groups and solo players, allowing everyone to see the storyline that unfolds in those instances. Full groups will also be able to enter into the more dangerous tiers of these adventures. The new landscape has 80 new quests, and the Black Book of Mordor will continue its story into these new regions. Update 23 will also increase the level cap to 120.

As it turns out, one does not simply launch Mordor. To the surprise of very few, judging by the reaction on the Lord of the Rings Online forums, the announcement came yesterday that the Mordor expansion has been delayed due to a bug that could not be fixed prior to today’s planned launch. As a result, the release has been adjusted to an as of yet unknown future date.
We are as excited as many of you to get into Mordor, but we have some unfortunate news: we have to adjust the release date. While preparing over the weekend to release the expansion on Monday, we discovered an issue in the build that impacted the ability of monsters and NPCs to move around correctly. This problem was specifically identified in older content. While correcting this issue is not a problem, the process to correct it takes too long to be able to release Mordor on Monday. So, we have to adjust the release date. We will have more info on the release date soon. We will know a lot more in the next 24 hours or so, and will pass along the info as soon as we can.
According to the Standing Stone website, any delays in the launch of Mordor will not extend past August 31st.

Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online are no longer under the leadership of Turbine Entertainment. In an unexpected announcement, both development teams have been spun off to form Standing Stone Games. Rather than staying on and acting as publisher, that role will be taken by none other than Daybreak Game Company. The entire announcement is below:
Greetings,
Today we have some momentus news! The game teams responsible for The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) and Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) are now moving from Turbine to Standing Stone Games, a newly formed indie game studio. In addition, we’ve partnered with Daybreak Games to provide global publishing services. They’ve had a long, successful history developing and publishing MMOs, and we’re happy to lean on their expertise.
With the announcement out of the way, I wanted to talk to you about what all this means.
We’re embarking on an exciting adventure as Standing Stone Games, a newly-independent studio staffed by people who have been working on DDO and LOTRO for many years. The teams remain very much committed to both games and are thrilled to continue development and operations of these games as an independent studio. This is an opportunity for us to bring about our dreams while still working on two of the biggest licenses in video games. It’s a huge honor, and for you this means your games will continue to grow and improve. We love to focus on games with a high level of depth and scope, and we can’t wait to show you what the future brings.
Although a great many exciting things are happening on our end, you’ll be able to continue playing the game(s) you enjoy with as little interruption as possible. Our development continues on track, and the plans we have already announced remain firmly in our future view. Again, although we are a new studio, we are also the same developers who have been and will continue to work on our games.
Our success has always been possible because of your support. As we move forward, this is more important than ever. The ultimate goal of our new studio is to continue to bring you amazing experiences. We are excited for the future, and we’re thrilled to have you with us on this journey.
Here’s to great games, epic adventures, and memorable times with friends!
~Sev
There are plenty of questions left to ask, like whether the two games will be brought under the umbrella of Daybreak’s All Access service and what this means for Turbine Entertainment, whose only major game in nearly ten years (Infinite Crisis) was met with poor reception and shut down close to its launch.

If you were looking at picking up anything in Lord of the Rings Online this week, you’re out of luck. In a post on the official forums, Turbine announced that sales for the nine year old MMO will be halted for a week on Tubine’s store as well as through Steam and Amazon. The announcement comes with a rather ominous “plan” to turn the features back on in June.
We want to announce that at 12:00pm EDT 5/20/2016, we’ll be temporarily interrupting our DLC/Offer sales on Steam, store.turbine.com, and Amazon. We plan to turn these back on June 1st, 2016.
Speculation is rampant on why sales would need to be suspended for a full week, with all likelihood pointing to an overhaul to mirror the company’s shift in focus from big expansions to smaller content packs.

We learned back in May of Turbine’s plans to merge the Lord of the Rings Online servers, but the company has finally come forward with more specific details on the hows, the whens, and the wheres. All but ten servers will close as part of the merger, five in the US and five in Europe, with players from affected servers being given free transfers to any one of the ten remaining.
We will begin the transfer process by opening the test world, Bullroarer, for character copy. We will then open transfers between the 10 remaining worlds. Then the worlds that are closing will be opened for transfer, a few at a time, in the order they are listed below. Please watch the website, forums, and launcher for announcements regarding timing. *Note: Brandywine will be unavailable for incoming transfers for a time until population and load can be re-evaluated on new hardware.*
While ten servers remain, the announcement notes that Brandywine will not be available as a transfer destination until the server can be moved to upgraded hardware.

As part of Turbine’s list of updates going live this summer, Lord of the Rings Online will see a number of worlds shuttered with players given the opportunity to transfer their characters and guilds. Updates to the data centers will allow character transfers from inside the game client rather than on the website, as well as supporting Kins disbanding on one server and reforming on another with their status and achievements intact.
You will have 3 months past the date of the launch of the new service in which to continue playing on the smaller worlds while planning and or making your move to a larger server. After that point your characters will always be available to be transferred to one of the remaining worlds, however you will only be able to log in to the remaining servers. More details on all of this as well as detailed instructions on how to move will be provided in email, in-game mail as well as website and forums in the months to come.
More information is set to come in the following months.

Russian gamers will be sad to learn that the local Lord of the Rings Online servers will be shutting down on June 1st. Mail.ru, the publisher of Lord of the Rings in Russia, was either unable or unwilling to renew their license with Warner Bros. and as a result the service is coming to an end. To end the game on a high note, players will be able to visit a tavern where they can level up and obtain equipment, talents, and more.
In addition, everything in the cash shop has had its price reduced to one mark, although new player registration and adding money to accounts has already been disabled. Mail.ru is planning on offering bonuses for several of their other games: Allods Online, Perfect World, and Dragon Nest.
