Rift’s Progression Server Is Dead, Sunsetting At End of Month

Rift’s progression server experiment is coming to a premature end. As posted on the official forums, Rift’s progression server will come down on March 31 with character transfers occurring the following week.

As part of the sunset, all accounts with a level 50 character on Prime will be receive a level 65 character boost pack as well as one million loyalty points. Unfortunately if you’re at capacity for characters on the live servers, you’re going to have to decide who is getting deleted.

The decision may not surprise Rift players, as one can find multiple threads on the main forum discussing low population on the Rift Prime server.

[Video] RuneScape: Meet Darren

This week Jagex released the latest trailer for RuneScape, introducing players to Darren, an adventurer who learns that you can’t just start off fighting three headed dragons.

“Anybody who has played RuneScape over the years will know that seizing adventure with both hands will take them on a journey across the game world, whether that’s battling three-headed dragons, sailing the seas of The Eastern Lands, or even interacting with the gods themselves. The new trailer introduces players to Darren as he begins his own adventure to smite King Black Dragon and make great friends along the way.”

The new trailer coincides with a promotional partnership with Twitch Prime. Prime members can redeem a RuneScape package this month containing one free month of membership, Umbral armor, a flame blade weapon, a companion pet, two umbral chests (loot boxes), and 15 treasure keys and 200 runecoins (cash shop currency). You’ll need to link your Twitch Prime account to your RuneScape account, this promotion runs until September 19.

All weapons/armor given as part of the promotion are cosmetic overrides.

Rift Prime First Month A “Rousing Success”

One month has passed since Trion Worlds first launched Rift Prime, a progression server that attracted enough players to be called a “rousing success.” In a post on the official website, Trion Worlds noted that in the past month, players have completed more than five million quests and tens of thousands of dungeons. The server population has remained high since then, and players are gearing up for the launch of the first raid.

“We couldn’t be happier with how RIFT Prime is performing, and we’re definitely not resting on our laurels,” said Fry. “We’ve got a ton of content that will be releasing regularly for RIFT Prime players, so if you haven’t taken the plunge yet, now is the perfect time!”

Rift Prime is a progression server launched last month that will start with launch-day content and then slowly unlock expansion content as it progresses. For more information, check out the link below.

[Community] Amazon’s Ridiculous and Inconsistent Prime-Gating

amazon

Before we begin, let me just get this out of the way and say that I am an Amazon Prime customer and am very happy with my service. Now on to the article.

Amazon has caused plenty of ruffled feathers and heads scratched in confusion with a very odd and inconsistent new scheme to sell games: major markdowns for Prime members. Discounts are hardly new for Prime, members already enjoy 20% discounts on new and pre-release games as well as free two day shipping, Prime-exclusive coupons, and the Prime pantry. What you might not expect is to see games becoming exclusive to Prime members for short periods of time.

The marketing is extremely inconsistent. For instance, as you can see above, both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One copies of Grand Theft Auto V are $39.99, while only the Xbox One version is “exclusive for Prime members.” If you get over to the actual store page as a non-member, you can’t buy it at all. You can buy the PS4 version for $39.99, but on the Xbox it is reserved for Prime members only. What’s even stranger is that just a few days ago the roles were reversed, you could buy the Xbox One version but not the PS4.

As another example, right now the PC version of Fallout 4 is on sale for $39.99, exclusive for Prime members, but the Xbox One and PS4 versions are also on sale for the same price but are not exclusive.

There has been a lot of speculation on why such a policy would be put into place, and Amazon hasn’t given any specific answers outside of pointing out benefits of Amazon Prime, but right now there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the exclusivity, nor any incentive to sign up for Amazon Prime since the sale price seems to be released to the public after a couple of days anyway.

As for the prices themselves, they’re decent enough. $39.99 for Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox One when it is still full price at most competing retailers, although Wal Mart and Best Buy both had similar deals at the time of this publishing.

Dominus Is Dead, Announces Pitchblack Games

It is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye, or at least goodbye for now. We simply cannot deliver the game you deserve with the resources we have. We never quit trying, even when hope faded, because you – our community – kept us inspired.

It is a sad day for sandbox fans, as another title has died on the operating table. Dominus, or Prime: Battle for Dominus as it was once known as, is being shut down mid-development due to a lack of resources over at Pitchblack Games. This may not be the end of Pitchblack Games, or Dominus, however.

Interested investors are kindly asked to email info@pitchblackgames.com. The notion of using Kickstarter has been thrown around by the community, with no response from Pitchblack on the matter.

Either way, it is sad to see another prospective gem fizzle out before it even has a chance to compete.
