TERA Weekend Event Postponed

“The sneak peek event planned for this weekend unfortunately has had to be cancelled. As we currently cannot foresee when we will be able to guarantee a smooth running of the event, there is no new date as of yet. We’re working closely with the TERA developers at Bluehole to fix the remaining issues.

The cancellation was not due to load problems caused by the large number of potential players. Player numbers would have given us a look into possible issues within the scope of a stress test. Due to unforeseen reasons, problems arose already during the entry into the game world.

As soon as we have new information regarding a rescheduled event planning and once all technical issues have been resolved we will inform you on our website, in the forum and via the usual social media channels.

We apologize for the cancellation of the event and assure you that we are doing our utmost to provide all players access to TERA as soon as possible. We thank all TERA fans for their patience and understanding and hope to have positive news for you very soon.

TERA Previews Coming Soon

Moving with MMO Fallout’s commitment for expanding our medium, I’ve committed to producing more video features. While I will not have access to the TERA sneak peek this weekend, reportedly neither the sneak peek or beta tests will be covered by a non disclosure agreement, meaning MMO Fallout will be publishing several TERA previews, both in video and text over the course of the closed beta period.

Stay tuned for more information.

Planetside 2 Now Accepting Beta Applications

Planetside has always been a standout IP. When the original game launched way back in 2003, the idea of a shooter where hundreds of players could participate in a single battle, where instances were nonexistent and everyone fought on the same world, and your actions could determine the outcome of a war, was virtually nonexistent. Even now as 2011 comes to a close, the number of companies willing to take on such a task has barely budged at all, and several projects promising an updated version of what Planetside offers are either still in development or caught somewhere in limbo.

When Planetside 2 launches at some point between now and the apocalypse, you will be able to jump in free of charge. Before that point, why not sign up for the beta and have a chance at trying it out free of charge? All you need is a Station account and the ability to sign in and click the “I agree” box.

Bloodline Champions Beta Key Giveaway

Giving away keys since some time ago.

Bloodline Champions is an upcoming game being published by Funcom that takes arena based PvP and sticks in several game modes including arena (fight to the death), capture the artifact (capture the flag), and conquest (conquest). The game is viewed from a top-down angled perspective, as you can see above, and controls with the WASD keys.

I have two beta keys to give away, because much like the rest of this website I am extremely cheap and under-performing. All you have to do is post a comment on this page, fill in the email spot with your real email address (I will be able to see it, but no one else will) and write whatever you want in the comment box. At the end of next week (the 29th) I will choose two winners by way of random number generator and send them the invitations.

Get crackin, and don’t fret if your comment isn’t approved immediately, it just means you don’t have any other approved comments and I do check every couple hours.

The Contest is now over. The winners have been selected by process of random number generator, and the invitations have been sent out. Better luck next time to those who didn’t get a key.

Headstarts, Expansions, and Free to Play

Horizontal

It’s a busy day today for MMOs. First off, those who preordered Fallen Earth will find that the headstart servers are now open for them to start roaming and utilizing those preorder bonuses before all the lazy people come in. Fallen Earth has been on my radar for quite some time now, not just because I was invited to the closed beta, but because it taught us a lot about false pretense. I’ll admit I was suckered into the idea that Fallen Earth would be an MMO take of Fallout 3, until I actually played the game and found that the two are different as day and night. Fallen Earth is a fully realized MMO set in a massive persistent world, with a unique system of crafting, leveling, and fighting. Those of you who did not preorder can dive into the live servers when the game fully launches on September 22nd, barring any future delays.

LOTRO

Secondly, an oldie comes back for a rejuvination. Today, Dungeons and Dragons Online goes fully free to play, alongside the newest expansion: Eberron Unlimited. The level cap has been raised to 20, and free players have access to most content, with a number of classes, items, and other features paid for through the game’s VIP system. Grab your 20 sided dice, get your party ready, and go deep into this title today! No doubt MMO Fallout will be focusing more on Dungeons and Dragons Online, what with the ongoing lawsuit between Developer Turbine and Publisher Atari.

Did Champions Online Pull A Trammel?

champs

There’s a very specific reason I don’t do previews of MMOs while they are in open beta: Because the final product may be very different than what players are testing out for the developers. As a rule, I remind people to never preorder on the assumption that, when the game launches, it will be the same as it is now. The open beta is a perfect opportunity for testers to show exactly what needs to be changed, and changed it will be. Abilities get tweaked, some features get buffed, and yes some features get nerfed. MMOs are never a final product, and big changes should always be expected.

Aion: Open Beta, Head Start Announced

Aion releases September 22nd, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until the end of September to try out this bad boy, nor do you have to import the Asian version to get on distant servers. After many rumors of the sort, the announcement has come that Aion will be holding a week long open beta, starting September 6th, giving access to 30 levels and the full environment to fly around in.

Those who preorder the game will be able to access the head start, and get right into the action on September 20th, a full two days before the full game launches. Players who preorder will also be able to set up their names and servers on the 18th, two days before the early start.

To those of you teetering on the edge: Don’t forget that this is an open beta, the key word being BETA. Although Aion has launched in other parts of the world, that does not mean that there will not be starting glitches in the open beta. That is what the beta is for, to hammer out the final bugs. Also remember: Aion has quite a pull from the community. Expect the patch and client servers to be down for some time, assuming it isn’t hosted on Fileplanet. Champions Online, that recently went into Open Beta, had a good 24 hours of difficulty with servers and clients.

Update: Good news! The Aion client is now available for download!

Special Subscriptions Return!

Good news everyone! On the 25th, Cryptic gave a short message detailing that they were out of the special 6-month and lifetime subscriptions for Champions Online. The end to the deal was quit a showstopper, and was the topic of much ridicule and complaint over the forums, email, and chat support.

Well, let no one say that the power of the people is not a powerful power, because the subscriptions are back! Rather than employing a set number to be doled out “until supplies last”, the offer will continue until 11:59 on August 1st. If you were still on the edge or if you misses your chance, now is your time to take advantage of the deal.

Don’t forget, purchasing either one will get you special access to the Star Trek Online beta!
