LOTRO Will Merge Down To Ten Servers

press_pack_big_battles_01

We learned back in May of Turbine’s plans to merge the Lord of the Rings Online servers, but the company has finally come forward with more specific details on the hows, the whens, and the wheres. All but ten servers will close as part of the merger, five in the US and five in Europe, with players from affected servers being given free transfers to any one of the ten remaining.

We will begin the transfer process by opening the test world, Bullroarer, for character copy. We will then open transfers between the 10 remaining worlds. Then the worlds that are closing will be opened for transfer, a few at a time, in the order they are listed below. Please watch the website, forums, and launcher for announcements regarding timing. *Note: Brandywine will be unavailable for incoming transfers for a time until population and load can be re-evaluated on new hardware.*

While ten servers remain, the announcement notes that Brandywine will not be available as a transfer destination until the server can be moved to upgraded hardware.

Log Into Trove For A Free Class This Weekend

2015-07-08 195914

To compensate players for recent downtime, Trion Worlds is handing out another free class coin to anyone who logs in between now and midnight Pacific Sunday night. The downtime stemmed from a seemingly simple database upgrade that went awry, forcing the game offline for several hours and requiring that Trion rollback the servers to earlier in the morning.

Thankfully, credits and cubits were returned to players who had purchased and subsequently lost them during that period.

We’ve returned the Credits and Cubits to everyone who made purchases. We also made sure all real money purchases got their goods. Some people might even get double since we wanted to be extra careful. The only exception is the Credit deals (i.e., if you got Credits plus lures or pinatas) in those cases we couldn’t give you the bonus items, so we gave you +50% Credits instead.

This is the second free class coin handed out since Trove went free to play.

Triad Wars Update Boosting Level Cap

triadwars 2015-05-15 09-55-59-45

The August update for Triad Wars is coming and will boost the current level cap for all players from 30 to 50. As players level up, their gangs will now level with them, creating new challenges for raids and new defenses for players raiding your turf. In addition, weapons will now be level-based with higher level weapons carrying more damage potential.

The enforcer level cap has been increased from 30 to 50. You will keep your current level, but what that level means has changed. We have removed the old upgrade screen and in its place we have a whole new leveling and upgrades system for you:

Leveling up now also unlocks slots that can be used to customize your character, unlock new moves, etc. Overall, the update will apparently make it easier to earn face and level up, especially by taking on higher level enemies.

A release date on the update has not been set.

League of Angels Only Wants 18+ Males

desperate

I don’t normally report on Facebook ads since most of you likely block them anyway and I could devote an entire book to how Chinese browser games engage in blatant fraud in Facebook ads either by outright lying about their games or going as far as using screenshots/video from other titles. And since League of Angels and GTArcade aren’t above stealing in order to peddle their self-playing browser “game,” it doesn’t surprise me at all that I would see the ad above on my Facebook feed.

Yes, they actually bought the domain “amazingmmogame.com” for the purpose of this promotion. Notice that there isn’t actually any indication of what the game is. The 3d model in the image above is from a Deviant Art account and may or may not have been stolen, but since the ad edits out where the watermark is, I’m willing to guess probably not. But for now, let’s dive into this ad. Clicking the link brings you to amazingmmogame.com, and a series of questions to determine if you are right for the game.

juan

Finally a game that gates its community. Ask away.

two

No. I won’t allow it.

three

Your players probably “feel difficult to beat lvl 3” because technically the game plays itself.

question3

I’ve seen enough of these games to know that addicts are exactly the demographic that League of Angels targets, so yes.

four

Yes, but I’m willing to bet that most of the other players are not 18. For what it’s worth, I answered no to all of these questions and the game let me in anyway. So much for League of Angels being a gated community.

League of Legends Just Killed A Character

1363576383705807507

If you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of pitchforks being sharpened. League of Legends broke new ground today by killing off one of its characters in the lore, not to mention the game itself. Players logging in today will find that Gangplank is no longer available to play, due to an untimely death from another League character Miss Fortune. Players logging in today will find that Gangplank has been disabled from play, with Riot Games asking for a few days of patience before further information is released.

Champion death is unprecedented in League of Legends, and we do not take it lightly. We encourage all Gangplank fans to remain calm for a few days until we can fully assess the situation. At this time, we are not addressing refund requests for him or his skins but please know that over the next several days we’ll do our best to make things right for everyone.

The good news is that it appears Gangplank’s removal is only temporary. Buzz on the forums points to the likelihood of Gangplank returning in an undead form, allowing the lore of League to progress while still allowing players access to the character and costumes that they spent real money for.

Marvel Heroes Will Annualize Versions

facebook_NewCostume_AntMan_Movie

The shift from Marvel Heroes to Marvel Heroes 2015 took a rather mediocre game and transformed it into the critically acclaimed title it is today, but don’t expect that shiny 2015 tag to stay forever. In an interview with Game Sauce, David Brevik discusses that Marvel Heroes will see annualized versions, accompanied by major patches with a new year attached, similar to annual sports games except you’re not required to buy a new game.

It’s kind of a common practice for annualized products … so we took that, and said we’ll rebrand it as Marvel Heroes 2015 and get new reviews, and we were able to raise our Metacritic score from a 58 to an 81, which proved that all of our hard work and effort had really gone a long way, making the product much better.

You can read the entire email at the link below, it is rather content heavy.

Archlord 2 Update “Most Challenging To Date”

Archlord2-JulyUpdate-02

Archlord 2 has just released its latest content update which Webzen claims is the most challenging to date. Players will be able to take on the Dark Stronghold, a new dungeon available only on Hell difficulty. The Dark Stronghold demands daring adventurers of at least level 55, and rewards exclusive level 60 gear. Elsewhere in Stardust Land, a new world raid boss has appeared by the name of Stein. Similar to the Dark Stronghold, Stein also drops level 60 gear.

Stein won’t be overcome by displays of sheer power; players will have to employ team-work and strategy to slay him. However, should they manage this feat, they will be rewarded with all new level 60 legendary weapons. Heroes should be careful during their raids, as both factions may attack this mighty boss simultaneously.

Other content additions include the ability to combine wings to strengthen stats, as well as new PvP gear.

Gaijin Embroiled In Extortion Scandal, Producer Fired

WarThunder_A-36

Gaijin Entertainment, developer of the WW2 MMO War Thunder, is under intense scrutiny this week after allegations that the company’s producer engaged in extortion tactics against a popular Russian Youtuber, attempting to force him into a legally binding contract carrying heavy fines for criticizing the company.

The news of Gaijin’s extortion scheme hit several War Thunder blogs, including Status Report, detailing that producer Pavel Kulikov tried to pressure a popular Youtuber Alconafter into signing a contract that would essentially give Gaijin complete control of the account. Alconafter would be required to create four War Thunder videos weekly and would not be allowed to produce any content critical of the game. To seal the deal, violating the contract would carry at ten thousand dollar USD fine per instance.

In order to force his hand, Kulikov used Youtube’s DMCA takedown system to shut down Alconafter’s Youtube account, offering to start a new account under his name and the contract. Alconafter refused.

Gaijin CEO Anton Yudintsev stepped in and has stated that the whole ordeal was Kulikov acting on his own and did not reflect on the rest of the company. Kulikov is no longer with Gaijin, according to his Twitter and Linkedin profile.

Trion Worlds Declares Light On RNG, Tough on Crime

ARCHEAGE 2014-10-10 12-02-23-78

To say that ArcheAge has had some controversies would be a gross misstatement somewhere on the level of placing a “watch your step” sign on an active minefield, but it looks like Trion Worlds may be willing to amend their ways to get back the good faith and credit of their community. In a post addressing player concerns, community manager Seraphina “Celestrata” Brennan revealed that Trion has been taking steps to alleviate the game of certain RNG mechanics.

While RNG systems won’t be going away completely, Trion wants to alter or completely get rid of high-failure-chance upgrades.

Will RNG ever completely disappear? Most likely no, as that’s not the type of game ArcheAge is. We want a level of challenge to remain, but we don’t want that challenge to be extremely high. Going forward, we want to continue to either remove or mitigate high failure mechanics by adding linear progression systems — I.E.: There should always be another way to get something.

In addition, Brennan points to a recent increase in bot bans thanks to “a renewed interest in reporting from the community itself,” with ban rates increasing by 300%.

Defiance Q&A Addresses PC/Console Performance Issues

Defiance 2014-08-06 00-57-47-32

Trion Worlds has published the latest Q&A for Defiance, addressing crossover content, Midsummer Mutiny, performance issues, and Warmaster instances.

On Midsummer Mutiny, Defiance’s summer event, complaints have arisen over players being clustered together during holiday events leading to performance issues on lower end machines, issues that have become more prominent since the game went free to play. Trion’s answer is that future content will put heavier reliance on instances for the boss battles, splitting up players into more manageable groups.

Trion is also aware of increasing performance issues on the PC and console versions and has a fix coming in the next patch that will hopefully fix said issues. You can read the rest of the Q&A at the link below, detailing instancing, further content, and more.
