Today’s Neverwinter Patch Balances Experience/Monsters

Neverwinter version NW.50.20150722a.15 will go live at around 9am Pacific today, with the servers going down at six to implement the update, but it brings with it a whole slate of balances to the post-60 experience. In regards to the Elemental Evil module which has seen a fair amount of criticism, the experience rewarded by Vigilance tasks will be greatly improved. Additionally, enemies from level 61 to 70 will have their health reduced substantially and damage reduced slightly.

In addition to these updates, Domination PVP will once again be reenabled thanks to fixes that will hopefully ensure that the game fills both teams before beginning. VIP features will be available to characters right out of the gate rather than after level 5.

Perfect World Entertainment is still in the process of patching in balances to Neverwinter following the launch of the Elemental Evil module. The update received heavy criticism over the length to level from 60 to 70, difficulty of monsters, and heavily altering or outright removing content including dungeons while re-using content for new areas. Today’s patch is part of an ongoing process in response to player complaints.

Daybreak Offers Cheaters A World of Their Own

boattoisle01

Daybreak Game Company will be opening up a new server later this week, Drunder, with a bit of a twist on the normal server rules. You can’t join Drunder in the normal fashion, at least not without petitioning customer service and signing your life away. Drunder is a prison server, the likes of which house Everquest 2’s greatest cheaters from gold farmer #52982523 to that guy who scammed your friend for his platinum and then shouted racial epithets in regional chat.

Drunder will act as a Hotel California for disruptive players, you can check out but you can never leave. Once determined as a suitable candidate, players will have all of their characters moved over to Drunder and will no longer receive customer support.

Drunder will get no customer service support and it will require a maintained membership to access and play. Rather than disrupt live servers in an attempt to join the “prison server,” players can use our /petition system and ask to join Drunder. To be clear: You won’t be able to move individual characters to this server, while maintaining characters from the same account on another server. This is a ONE-WAY trip for an entire account forever.

According to Holly Longdale, the Drunder server comes in response to repeated requests from Daybreak customer service representatives, who will also be making the decision on who gets a free, non-refundable, compulsory, one way pass.

Blade & Soul Is Coming: Founder’s Packs Ready For Purchase

BnS_2015-08_gamescom_01

Blade & Soul’s western release is right around the corner, we know this to be true because NCSoft has officially announced that founder’s packs are available for purchase. Made ready to pickup in the form of $24, $75, and $125 packages, anyone who grabs a founder’s pack will have access to all closed betas later this fall, not to mention three days early access, scaling character titles, and increasing premium points. Higher tier packages give access to premium membership, name reservations, booster packs, NCoins, and more.

The good news is that should you have second thoughts about your pre-order, you can always get a refund anytime before the character name reservation becomes available. You’ll also need to make use of this function if you decide to upgrade to a higher tier, because right now that is impossible and may or may not be implemented at some point in the future.

Premium points increase your membership tier along the lines of a loyalty program, increasing the benefits of membership with each cash shop purchase.

How ArcheAge’s Server Mergers Will Work

ARCHEAGE 2014-10-10 12-02-23-78

ArcheAge is getting closer to its planned server mergers, and Trion Worlds has dumped a massive amount of information on how the process will work. In total, twelve servers will be merged into six, divided equally between North American and European servers. For players on affected servers who do not wish to be part of the merger, they will receive a free one-time transfer to a server of their choice (with some exceptions based on populations). Characters involved in the transfers will be moved on September 8th.

While players will need to change their name if there is a conflict on the destination server, if the name is available at the point of transfer request it will be reserved and inaccessible to other players. Players waiting for the merge are required to pack up items on their land or risk losing them when the merger comes. Finally, players have the option of starting new on one of the two fresh-start servers.

Server transfer signups begin August 25th and end September 4th, with requests being processed on the 8th. You can find more information regarding restrictions at the link below.

Marvel Heroes Mystic Mayhem Promises A Lot of Loot

fVH6WaY

Gazillion Entertainment has released a preview of the next big event for Marvel Heroes: Mystic Mayhem. The event, which should begin later this month, tasks heroes with fighting back a demonic horde, eventually taking their fight to the off-world of Limbo. For the duration of the event, players will be able to get their hands on legendary scrolls, packs of eternity splinters, hero tokens, and more. As always, the update will be accompanied by a slate of new achievements and a period of bonus experience and rare item find.

Mystic Mayhem is a new event for Marvel Heroes. It’s born out of the necessity to ensure N’astirh’s invasion of Earth does not succeed and the demon’s base of operations in Limbo is shut down. Many heroes of the Marvel Universe are coming together to help you, the Hero, defeat the Demon invasions and stop the mayhem. In scope and size, the new Mystic Mayhem event is a cross between a regular weekly event and a Big Ten event. Mystic Mayehm will be included and return in the regular cycle of events.

Mystic Mayhem will hopefully go live before the end of the month, but you don’t have to play now to get in on the rewards. The event will be added to the normal rotation, appearing again at some point in the future.

Neverwinter Details Further Leveling Changes

neverwinter_scourge_warlock_071414_3_wm

Scott Shicoff, lead designer on Neverwinter, has posted a set of patch notes on the official website detailing further changes to the MMO’s leveling curve. The new level cap of 70 has seen intense scrutiny since its launch earlier this year alongside Elemental Evil, with players complaints ranging from the length of time required to level to the heavy difficulty of the new higher level mobs. Following launch, Perfect World has promised to go back and fix issues related to progression and difficulty.

Hey folks, I’ve got an update on some changes we’re making to Neverwinter, specifically regarding leveling from 60 to 70. Before I get started, I’d like to thank you all again for your patience as I investigated and reviewed the state of the game since the release of Elemental Evil. We went through a massive amount of feedback and analysis before making a decision.

Most of the updates in the latest patch are focused on reducing health buffs on NPCs above level 60, along with a buff to experience from quests in the Elemental Evil zones that should result in a “noticeably faster” progression from 60 to 70. It isn’t the last of the updates to fix the community’s grievances with Elemental Evil, so expect more patches in the coming weeks/months. For now however players should notice themselves being killed by mobs in a single shot, far less.

Other ongoing complaints from the forums include bringing back disabled dungeons.

Neverwinter VIP: $10 A Month For $37 Worth Of Keys

neverwinter_scourge_warlock_071414_3_wm

Perfect World Entertainment has released details on an upcoming subscription system for Neverwinter. Dubbed VIP, the subscription plan acts as both a membership and running loyalty program at the same time in that it levels up the longer a player subscribes and offers more bonuses as the months progress. To top it off, you don’t lose VIP rank if you unsubscribe, you simply start off where you left off the next time you add another payment.

What caught my eye, however, is the fact that immediately at VIP rank 1, the first, the player begins receiving one enchanted key per day for the entirety of the 30 day subscription. At the cost of 125 Zen per key, this runs to 3,750 Zen or approximately $37.50 worth of keys if you log in every single one of the 30 days and manually claim the key. 3,750 Zen worth of keys for 1,000 Zen in investment.

To top it off, if you’re the kind of hardcore person who can conceivably make 1,000 zen in less than a month by converting Astral Diamonds, you can get VIP for free. And if you get lucky and get some rare drops from the boxes you open, you could sell those on the market for Astral Diamonds and fund another month.

Just something to think about.

Funcom Isn’t Doing Well, Seeking Investment/Merger

jomali

Things are looking pretty dire for Funcom. Last month we learned that Lego Minifigures not only isn’t selling well, it isn’t being covered by the traditional gaming press. In an update released just a couple of days ago, Funcom announced that it has hired an outside bank to review whatever options may be available to keep the company afloat, including investments, mergers, and acquisitions.

Following the completion and launch of the LEGO Minifigures Online game, and based on the situation described in the stock notice from Funcom issued on 23 July this year, Funcom N.V. (hereafter the “Company”) has retained ABG Sundal Collier to undertake a broad review of the strategic options available to the Company. The Company is actively seeking interested parties for discussions surrounding a possible investment, acquisition, merger, or any other available options.

If you would like to purchase/merge with Funcom, send an email to investor@funcom.com.

$12.5 Million Deal Reached In 38 Studios Lawsuit

Kingdoms-of-Amalur-Reckoning-Screenshtos

In what is certainly not the final chapter to the long and twisted story of 38 Studios, Curt Schilling, and Kingdoms of Amalur, Rhode Island has announced a $12.5 million settlement with four more defendants from the original lawsuit. To the unfamiliar, 38 Studios headed by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling relocated to Rhode Island on the promise of a $75 million state-backed loan to create their game Kingdoms of Amalur and eventually develop an MMO. Amalur failed to sell and 38 Studios went bankrupt, making the state (ie: its tax payers) liable for paying the rest of the loan.

The state of Rhode Island filed lawsuit against a wide variety of people involved, including Schilling himself, executives, former agencies, and banks involved in the loan. 38 Studios was accused of everything from fraud, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and more. The settlement is supported by both sides, with the state looking to recoup what is left of the defendant’s insurance and the defendants simply seeking to end the trial.

There are still other lawsuits ongoing, including one against Curt Schilling himself.
